fishbycycle, get a fucking grip

Maybe because she has a history of being a total ass to her customers? Jesus Christ, Tuba, way to treat paying customers.

If anyone working retail ever treated customers the way she does, they’d be long gone. And Polycarp, being a volunteer doesn’t mean you can get away with being an ass, either. At the hospital where I volunteer, they wouldn’t hesitate to can someone who acted so rudely to patients. Just because someone’s a volunteer doesn’t mean they can’t be out of line.

Having seen enough of these Tuba threads to shake a stick at, I think we’d all lower our blood pressure considerably if everyone just ignored her. It has become obvious over the years that the rules simply do not apply to her. She’s done things that would’ve gotten anyone else banned. But since she pretty much runs the place, she gets to do whatever she wants. Hey, that’s fine with me. I try to ignore her little outbursts and enjoy the rest of what goes on on this message board. And if one day Her Capriciousness decides I need to be banned for some innocuous comment, meh, you know, life goes on. There’s other message boards out there.

FWIW, I think the OP has something of a point. I mean, how anal retentive does fishy have to be to not only notice his post count and keep track of it from post to post, but to think that it’s something important enough to bitch about in an ATMB thread? However, I’d hardly warrant fishy’s behavior as pittable. Somewhat amusing, perhaps, but not pittable.

I cannot believe the number of comments from people who erroneously believe I give a flying fuck about how many posts I have. I seriously Do Not Get It. I write in with a question about what may be a problem with the board, or not, and it spawns a now multiple-page pit thread. And I’m being told I need to get a grip. Um, right.

You need to get a grip of your post count if you keep losing them.

That’s twice you’ve jumped in here to tell us that.

Nevertheless, you did notice your post count and you did think that an irregularity therein was important enough to start an ATMB thread. I mean, there it is, right in front of us for anyone to read.

As I said above, I certainly wouldn’t have started a pit thread about it. I doubt I’d’ve remembered much about it more than two minutes after reading it.

Your reaction in this thread, however, is becoming quite interesting.

Correct on both counts, unfortunately.

If being snarky in response to perfectly reasonable queries was, in fact, “out of the ordinary” for this particular mod, perhaps fewer people would care about this specific incident. It’s the accumulation of similar shit that gets people annoyed and frustrated.

Apparently, some of you people have nothing better to do than find fault where there is none. If you’re looking for something to get pissed off about, why not find something of substance? I can’t control how anyone comprehends the written word. How this clusterfuck came out of my noticing what appeared to be a software malfunction is beyond me. Some people only see what they want to see, and disregard the rest.

Sorry, i disagree with your argument here.

Like most other Dopers, i have no particular interest in my overall post count. Most of the time i ignore it altogether, and i certainly don’t invest any time or effort in tracking it or padding it.

I do, however, tend to notice when i’m about to pass a large milestone, like, say, 6,000 posts. If an anomaly in my post count cropped up right at that time, i would be far more likely to notice it than if it came up at, say, 5,437 posts. I think it’s reasonable to assume that this is what happened with fishbicycle.

It is completely irrelevant whether fishbicycle cares intesely about his post count. He asked a benign question/made comment and got an unecessarily snarky response from Tuba.

Thank you, mhendo. That’s exactly what it was. I was approaching an even hundred, that’s why I noticed. I never ordinarily look at the number. If I ever do look at it again, I will be certain not to mention it.

Weak all around. My summary:

A probably-unneccessary-but-hey-no-biggie kinda post by fishbicycle.

A mildly-snarky-but-whatever kinda post by tubadiva.

A probably-unneccessary knee-jerk reaction by fishbicycle.

A weak pitting.

Nobody’s hackles raised mostly except the OP and the pittee.

Yawn.

These are the dog days for the pit.

Wow, I would not expect such insight and familiarity from a “guest”. Good for you, and Welcome to the SDMB.

Hey, go easy. If it hadn’t been for fishybike, I’d never have known that every time a sock dies, an angel deletes a thread.

Not that I’m complaining. Personally, many of my best friends are mods. I don’t think they’re weird or smelly at all.

I am going to need a cite that mods have friends.

So they’re mods on other message boards then?

You wouldn’t know these mods. They have a messageboard in … in Canada. I met them at summer camp.

They sound nice.

Not when you say it!
