Flamed!

Mindless and pointless flames. Yeah, so I got some sort of come-uppance. How wonderful. Only took a thousand or so posts into this thing. So what now? What does one who’s been flamed do? I don’t care much for the pit. It seems pretty much a waste to debate with stubborn people, and to nitpick about distinguishing for the scientific and technical terms for things a person doesn’t normally do. I stand by what i said i did, because i did it. So what exactly do the flamers expect the flamed to do or say?

Where and when were you flamed?

Link soulsling, give us a link.

What you do about the flame and the flamer is up to you. I generally flame back, but then we all know how big a (_____) <—
insert word that starts with b and sounds like witch here, I can be if the mood hits me.

soulsling, I agree with you about the technical issue of “recipe” versus “sysnthesis” being virtually synonymous, but I fail so see how that constitutes a flame. Would you please elaborate?

Oh, here’s the requested link.

Upon re-reading how the difference was depicted, I guess that does constitute a flame.

Ignore it if you don’t want to bother with it. It usually helps to ignore the person who posted it, too.

So you don’t care enough to post this to the one who flamed you, but you’ll try and convince everyone here that you were correct?

I agree with Mr. Cynical–ignore it, not worth your time…if he wants to interpret somethint one way and be stubborn about it, let him. You know your own opinion and that is that.

You said it yourself, you take something too personally.

Don’t get me wrong with my above post. I’m not trying to take sides here, my only point is that either you ignore it and forget about it, or if you want to debate the issue, then yap with Neutron Star about it.

I’m not trying to convince anyone of anything. I don’t care to fight with anyone either. It’s a matter of being called a liar, without anything but a stubborn need to feel right by the accusing party. My question was what should i do? Is it better to ignore it whatever i think of the issue and let it pass knowing that it won’t be resolved no matter how much i do try to argue it? I don’t want to have it cause more trouble than i fear it may have already. It’s silly even, i know, but still not something i’m used to. I don’t care for the unecessary remarks and insults, because it gets in the way of the issue, but just as well, it seems a tricky issue to have discussed.

If you don’t care to fight then the only other option is to ignore.

Yes

Choose to either resign yourself to the fact that there are those that will disagree with you, or to defend your position. If you choose to resign yourself, just let it lie. Pride is a silly thing to begin with. If, on the other hand, you choose to defend your position, you have to go in with facts, numbers, data, etc.

I’ve found in numerous cases that (after the fact) I was quite glad that I let some snide comment slide off rather than make a big deal.

Thank you Moe, Swiddles, little sis. You’re right about pride Swiddles. Something i tend to forget.

I say F 'em. There are some real jerks on this board. A lot of people are so desperate to make sure everyone thinks they’re smart that they don’t care how many people think they’re assholes (I am not necessarily referring to neutron star with this comment. not NECESSARILY, but if the shoe fits…). I read through the pit thread as well as the original GQ thread and I’m just amazed.

Count yourself lucky though. I only have about 400 or so posts, and I’ve been good and flamed many a time. haha

By the way, just FTR, the courts have already ruled that providing information, linking to already existing information, etc is LEGAL. Information cannot be illegal. Suppressing information, however, IS. It’s that pesky little First Amendment thing, y’know. In fact, blocking you from publishing information on any topic is known as Unconstitutional Prior Restraint of Speech. So again, F 'em.

Of course, the flaw here is that this board is closer to private property than a town square, so freedom of speech doesn’t really apply here. So nevermind what I just said. heh.

Soul, it’s probably your first flame. The first time, you take it personally and wish you could broadcast your point of view and defend yourself with a loudspeaker.

Don’t worry, it’ll pass, and soon everyone will forget. (Everyone but you, that is, and you’ll always give the evil eye to those that flamed you)

Relax and ignore it because we still love you.

Take the high road. Some people like to nitpick because they think that labored discussions about shades of meaning (or whatever) give them a chance to show their intelligence. But I think intelligence is most evident when people know the difference between a point that must be made for true understanding of the issue, versus a point which, when made, merely sidetracks the entire argument.

Most of the SDMB’s for whom I’d give a squirt of piss know the difference. They don’t think the less of you for letting the barbs go unanswered or unchallenged.

Also, some people just like to be persnickety. That’s their foible, not yours.

rip out the flamer’s heart and smash still-beating heart on said flamer’s face.

I don’t care much for the pit.
you answered your own question. if you can be clever and acidic while maintaining an air of civility, then stay here and go for an artery. otherwise, ignoring the flamer is probably just as aggravating. (probably more so)

It seems pretty much a waste to debate with stubborn people, and to nitpick about distinguishing for the scientific and technical terms for things a person doesn’t normally do.
did you ever hear the anecdote about wrestling with a pig? you both get dirty, and the pig enjoys it. are you a pig? you sound like you don’t want to get your Pumas dirty.

So what exactly do the flamers expect the flamed to do or say?
die.
