FlashForward---Anyone Still Watching?

Yeah, it seems unlikely that ABC would renew FlashForward and V at this point, and I honestly don’t know which one to root for. The few episodes of V I saw were pretty fun, but FlashForward is probably the better show.

I gave up after about four episodes when I lost my suspension of disbelief. It had a fascinating premise, and then blew it. I will keep an eye on the commentary, though. If they’ve put in a new showrunner (does that mean what I think it means?), it may well be worth watching again.

What’s odd (I guess, though I have never been a sci-fi fan, in TV, books or movies) is I had no problem in suspending my disbelief when it came to the “Big Picture” premise of the plot; I was more than willing to imagine that a worldwide blackout could happen, creating untold chaos and mayhem and just go with it…

What took (takes) me out of the suspension are the trivial, day to day things about the characters lives—FlashForward has literally dozens of examples of little things the audience is supposed to buy into that are laughably silly and falsely portrayed.

I will watch the show to this season’s conclusion, (which will be the first time in my life that I have ever watched a complete series as it aires) but if it does get a second year extension, I will not go out of my way to watch week in/week out as I have so far.

The new show picked up a bit, as we were sort of bored when it ended last time.
I have to admit, Dominic Monaghan must have one hell of a contract with ABC - barely off Lost and now starring in this show - I want his agent.

Yeah, this new 2 hour show got things back on track pretty fast.
Hope they keep it up.

I stuck with it for the first seven episodes and finally gave up. I just wasn’t able to care about any of the characters enough to find out answers. It’s a shame, because I like a lot of the actors involved, and really was excited for this show.

I thought it was a great premise. Then, their version of the Cigarette Smoking Man showed up. It was ok for X-Files, but I don’t like the whole conspiracy revolves around one man concept. It’s annoying.

Good news Jormungandr!

Charlie from Lost killed him in Thursday’s episode!

I agree. The premise was interesting, but I very quickly became indifferent to everybody’s situation; don’t know whether it’s just a poor match between the writing and the actors cast, but except for the male nurse who almost killed himself, none of the personal stories are compelling to me at all.

But the 2-hour return was very good in answering some questions and making some real headway toward ratcheting up suspense and promising to perhaps provide some real answers. So for me, the larger conspiracy/mystery arc still piques my interest, though the details of whose marriage does/doesn’t survive, etc. is still a big blah to me.

Think it was just a coincidence that the Hobbit used a ring to escape the Blackout?

Yeah, I forgot - I laughed out loud at that!

It’s a shame that such a good premise is wasted on such a poorly written show. The last two episodes were probably the best so far, but that’s not saying much. There are just way too many moments where disbelief comes crashing down and takes me out of the show. Also, the pacing is very strange. Sometimes it drags, and sometimes things fly by incoherently.

My biggest problem is with the FBI ex- (and future) alchoholic guy. He’s supposed to be the protagonist, right? And I find him super annoying. He mopes, he whines, he hates the future he saw in regards to his wife and drinking and yet seems hellbent on behaving in ways that will alienate her and thus isolate himself and thus make him more likely to drink… Not even to mention the idiocy of taking that woman captive in a country where he has no resources, no back up, no plan… Idiot.

I vote he gets killed instead of his partner.

Yeah, I think this is a BIG problem with the series. He is the lead character, but he is–as you said–mopey and annoying. I’ve liked Joseph Fiennes in other roles, but he really drags things down in FlashForward.

Finally got to see the new episode, and I thought it was great. Way more in the way of answers than I expected to see in a single episode.

I turned to my wife and siad this, "Well, if there is a second blackout that means they hahve been renewed, if they manage to stop it then that probably means no season 2.

DVRed it, still need to watch it. I’m hoping it survives, I’d really like this show to replace Lost as my weekly Sci-Fi addiction next season.

DVR’d it, then deleted it - too much else on the plate to invest in a doomed show.

But, I am curious as to the ‘answers’ - if anyone cares to spoil them.

And now what’s he going to do with the … er … package in the cargo area of his uncles’s van?

I was wondering about that myself. Seems like the thing that might attract a spot of attention. And it’s not like he can just say he’s popping off to the store for a minute, what with Agent Hawk keeping a tight leash on him.

The place is going to be a madhouse, what with responders and upset relatives and such. And he’s already been outside way to long, considering the nature of the phone call.
