FloriDopers: Heads up for TS Fay

I got to leave work early on Friday, and drove home expecting…well, something. shrug It rained a long time. Yesterday evening, we got slammed by a really powerful storm. It had nothing to do with Fay, though.

So, it wasn’t suffocatingly hot last week and I got some time off work. I’m cool with that.

It was nice having a week of temps that didn’t get out of the high 70’s-low 80’s.

Crap.

We’ll have to keep an eye on Gustav now. Anyone want to start that thread, or shall I?

I’m shutting my eyes and sticking my fingers in my ears.

Contractors were in last night- the bill for Fay: $5,800.00.

We think insurance will cover most of it, which is handy since we don’t have that kind of money.

Nice housewarming present…sorry you have to go through with that.

Looks like Gustav is going to miss most of Florida, so Gulf Coast Dopers, I pass the flashlight and the shot glasses on to you!

State Farm told us today that they aren’t covering any of it.

I’m going over our policy tonight with a fine comb, then probably calling an attorney tomorrow.

'Course, I work in an office with an attorney who specializes in construction defects, but only on new buildings.

And here I was thinking that this storm wouldn’t do any real damage. :frowning: Sorry to hear about your home, RNATB. I hope you can get State Farm to pay up.

The mention of Gustav upthread reminded me that I need to change the address on my renter’s insurance. There was a moratorium on policy changes while Fay was still in the state. I’m submitting my new information right now.

Fingers crossed that Gustav avoids us completely.

We’ve had close to 15 inches of rain here in southwest GA with obviously a lot more in the counties that border Florida. One death in Grady County, GA. A twelve year old boy who was wading on the edge of a flooding lake and got sucked in. :frowning:

We’re still getting rain and will apparently through Thursday. Fay has been persistent! Oh well, temps in the upper 70s to mid 80s the past few days have been nice and the weekend promises to be nice.

Gustav… stay away! Far far away!

I went over the quote that the contractor submitted to the insurer, and it included some stuff we don’t need- replacing the carpet which was damaged (the only freaking carpet in the house, of course) with tile, and a couple of other unnecessary things.

I’m hopeful that the “necessary” part will be under $3k.
