FloriDopers: Heads up for TS Fay

Be careful navigating those flooded streets…there be alligators!!!

Nope, I’ve never had lightening and thunder with a TS or hurricane. Just craploads of wind and rain.

We lost our power a couple hours ago, and went down to the beach to watch Fay.
Pelted with rain, salt and sand, we paid our respects to Mother Nature, and returned home to see the power back on. It’s blowing purty good, but I agree that I’ve seen worse during a thunderstorm we had here about ten days ago.
Still, they did close our bridge, and there is no school today or tomorrow.
We’re not out of this yet, that’s for sure.

The powers that be are still dithering here about whether or not we’re getting the day off tomorrow, although schools will be out. There was also some talk about staying open with a “skeleton crew” (read: Nobody works but Dung Beetle.) Color me pissed off in three…two…one…

Where to begin? The power went out around 7:30. Came back on in two hours or so. Went out again an hour later. My friend up the street hasn’t lost power all day. All the neighbors seem to have power. FINALLY, the power came on around 6:30.

In the meantime… all hell broke loose. We’ve had issues before about water coming in the east windows during big storms. We’ve attempted to fix it but you never know until a big storm comes. So guess what is happening?

Then, my stable helper called to say that my TB, Liza, is colicking. I gave her banamine which has perked her up but will wear off in a few hours. My usual vet is gone so I had to call her sub. The sub has two other colics ahead of me and can’t be here for three hours. She may not be able to get here at all because all bridges are closed!

To recap, my husband is out of town, my detached garage is about to float away because the pond is overflowing, I have water coming in around the east windows and my horse is in crisis. And the power is flickering again. Any SDMB hugs out there?

Whoa, sh*t!

Looks like I’m staring down it’s barrel at 2:PM on Saturday! Good thing I don’t start class until Wednesday.

[sub]Damn good thing I’m a renter, too. . . let the landlord fix broken sh*t.[/sub]

Loads of hugs, Mona. Hang on…hopefully it will be over soon. Yikes!

{{{Mona}}} here’s hopin’ the worst is over soon.

Fay is startin’ to say her “howdy’s” here in south Jawja. Feeder band rains off and on since midafternoon. We’re not looking for anything near as bad as y’all are gettin’ in Flahrduh but could see as much as 15 inches of rain from now through Friday.

Stay Safe Y’all!

Still blowing and raining here in northeast Florida. At least the power is still on.

I’m one of a very few people that showed up for work this morning. They may send us home, since not much is going to get done here without lab techs and couriers.

Good luck, Mona and Monahorse!

Well, our house may be in trouble.

We discovered water coming into the living room last night through the wall which all the wind and rain was pounding against. (Of course, it just HAD to happen in the only carpeted room of the house)

I’m hoping it may just have been the accumulation of four days’ worth of sideways rain seeping in through screw holes and the hole where the cable feed enters the house and such. Either way, I think we’ll have to have the drywall torn out.

I don’t know much about this stuff, though.

I don’t know anything about it either but good luck.

No, not really, just a lot of wind and rain. Now that you mention it, I don’t remember a big light show from Charley/Francis/Jean et al, either. I wonder why that is?

On the bad side, the motor in our AC died last night. On the plus side, it wasn’t a hot muggy night, and on the plus plus side, we got it fixed today.

On the bad side, there’s a leak in the ceiling of the kid’s bathroom. On the plus side, it looks like an easy fix…water is coming in through the exhaust, so some caulk should help that.

Finally got my power back. The rain and wind were horrific last night. I thought the windows were going to blow in.

When the vet finally made it, we had to tube my horse via flashlight. She seems okay now. All of the horses are a bit shell shocked, probably from the noise of the wind and rain on the tin roof of the barn. I don’t think they slept at all. I know I didn’t

The damage report is three trees down, erosion around the pond and lots of standing water.

Er… what, exactly, does “tubing a horse” entail?

Glad you’re all (provisionally) okay!

The vet slides a plastic tube up the horse’s nose into her stomach. She can then tell what the stomach smells like (fresh grass is good) and pump in mineral oil and water (to lube things up internally). She also palpated the mare, which involves sliding her arm into the mare’s anus to feel for obstructions in the intestines. And all done by flashlight!

crosses veterinary school off list of future life choices

It’s not that bad, you get to wear a plastic glove with a sleeve that goes all the way up to the armpit.

Ft. Walton Beach/Niceville checking in: all we had today was some crappy rain. My wife, Nawth Chucka drove down from Macon, GA today and she said she saw lots of trees down and such. However, it looks like the “worst of the comma” is up in Alabama. We got nary an ellipsis out of it. . .

Looks like the clouds are lifting too. I can see stars.

Holy poop-on-a-stick, it’s coming down now! I gotta drive through it to get to the base too. I think the FL panhandle is in for its wallop this morning and afternoon. . .

Better batten down the hatches. . . or something.
