Food porn for Beck in the MMP!

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels and sheets in the wash, puppy crate cleaned and fixing to do KP. It’s a bit chilly to do garden work today (the magnolias on the other end of the building are blooming though), so I’ll clean out the laundry/storage room. I still need to go to Kroger for test strips and lancets, but am considering using click cart so I can just drive up.

Good morning, folks.

Well, it’s time to stay out of the stores. I went in this morning. This was a Super Walmart, in Illinois. There were all kinds of fresh produce. But, the diapers were gone, no baby wipes, no Lysol, no Clorox wipes. No bleach. No toilet paper/paper towels/Kleenex/dinner napkins. Very slim frozen foods. No frozen pizzas. Slim assorted canned goods, and soups. No fresh meat. Very few eggs. No lunchmeats. No hot dogs. Only two boxes of shrimp ramen. Bread was getting slim, too. No more milk. No bottled water. Slim junk food/chips. Slim cookies/crackers.
It’s absolutely ridiculous! WTF is wrong with people?!

My daughter is an overnight CSM at this particular Walmart. Last night, an older lady called the store, and asked what the store still had available. My daughter told her. Then, the lady remembered that the buses in town don’t run on Saturday. She then said that she needed food. My daughter was near tears. The store records all calls, and my daughter couldn’t ask her what she needed, or what her address was. We could have helped her, if she had been able to find out her address! We would have GLADLY brought the woman some food! But, my daughter would have been fired, if she asked her for her address. That makes me heartsick.

Now, my daughter is having some sort of anxiety issue. Feeling dizzy, and all that sort of thing. I know she needs to ‘get over it’. You can’t save everyone. But, I’m happy that I raised a child that has actual feelings for other humans. Still, it sucks to have to hear another human say that she needed food, and not be able to do a damned thing to help. It’s depressing!

Then, a woman came through the checkout, and she had WIC. Well, the store was out of the packs of one dozen eggs. All they had left, were six packs of eggs, and very few of them. So, the woman brought two of the six packs of eggs to the checkout. WIC wouldn’t accept it, so, she couldn’t buy them with her WIC. The man behind her, DID buy them for her, though. So, that had a good ending. Still, it’s heartbreaking. The next time it happens, that person may not be so lucky. Heartbreaking.

I’m going to go take a nap. Humbug!

Goride is lying in the middle of the floor, so I have to go fullMinistry of Silly Walks every time I need to go to the kitchen.

Well, I’m bummed. I thought by now I was supposed to have heard yay or nay about the job interview I had yesterday. Since I haven’t heard anything I guess it’s nay. It felt so good then, but seems I was fooling myself.

That means I won’t be able to give notice at my current job, and will have to go in on Monday. And will likely have to do that stupid library tea on April 5th.

Sigh

CVS texted that I had 3 meds to pick up, and since Food Lion is right across the street, I stopped there, too, hoping for milk. Success! Plus I grabbed a few more things that I wanted but didn’t necessarily need - like an extra bag of onions. I just wish I’d remembered to check the canned fruit aisle - I like having peaches and pears on hand - I have some, but not as many as I’d like. We’ll survive. I hope.

Just finished cleaning strawberries for easy eating. Roxy is napping, daughter is doing her calculus homework, and I may assume the knit position.

ETA: **Butters **- it came in the mail a couple of days ago. It had a code that applied specifically to my address.

Stoopit timeout dupe. :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Y’all! At da cave for a while. There is a lull in what needs to be done right now so I took advantage of it and will go back around three and be there for the duration. We are a lean, mean, feast prep machine! Now if folks will show up and get food. I’m sure there will be as this is always sump’n folks look forward to every year. We will do deliveries to a few folks who would not be able to be there, but we do that every year.

I foresee nappage in the near future.

Happy Sattiday all. No soccer today due to the virus closing up all activities, so I’ve got laundry running and drying right now. Will have to go out and take my chances shopping, no idea what N. Alabama is like panic-shopping-wise, we haven’t had a case as of Thorsday, but that never stopped anyone from being silly before.

Butters, like FCM said. You’ll get an envelope with the on-line address and a code that you enter, and then it’s fill-in-the-blanks. 5 minutes and you’re done.

Cupcakes, might be taking them longer given the health situation. Still got my fingers crossed.

nona, feel for your daughter. Wish there was a way around the rules, but her losing her job ain’t going to help. Hope things settle down.

Everyone else take care.

{{Cupcakes}} Hope they get back to you soon, with a yes! Job hunting is horrid.

We do seem to be getting a bit of a flurry of helpfulness here, to at least partly counter the eejits, though reportedly in the next town over the supermarkets are now restricting the amount of tp one can purchase at once to at least slow the eejits down a bit. People are doing stuff like trying to set up a network of volunteers to go check on, and do errands for, people self-isolating due to high risk (from a safe distance, of course). I’m half feeling like I should sign up, but I am really busy and I think I’m pretty high risk for catching it, given where my work and skool are, so I don’t want to volunteer to be typhoid Mary…

They have a web site up, but ask folks to wait until they get their census stuff in the mail.

It’s Saturday, but I didn’t grate any potatoes. Instead, we went to Tony’s Just A Bite.

Afternoon, laundry is done but needs to be folded. Went shopping and both Kroger’s and Publix are out of Toilet Paper and for that matter, all other papers, right now. Soup is pretty much picked over (except for Cream of Mushroom…if anybody has a need for Cream of Mushroom, Alabama can help). Also the vegetable area was still pretty well-stocked–although the forzen pizza aisle was decimated (which may say more about American eating habits than anything. Ended up with wheat bread instead of white, but I can manage that.

Got home to read soccer is suspended to April 6th due to Spring break, so three weeks of not having kids to chase around.

Now need to fold underwear and hang up shirts. All y’all take care.

If you live in a larger place, unless you like long lines, I’d advise the pickup option. Every store I’ve been to in the last few days is nuts. I actually feel a bit bad about doing an Instacart order to Costco (ibuprofen, naproxen, and a bag of frozen ravioli to get above minimum), as nuts as I hear that place is lately. Yes, I will tip the nice driver well. That’s arriving tomorrow. When I placed the order last night, there were no open delivery slots for today.

Rainy and windy here, good day to stay tucked away in the mini-cave. Not feeling like getting much of anything productive accomplished, unless further sleep, playing silly phone games, or cat snuggling count.

As for supplies, I do have plenty of canned and frozen food on hand. The Princess has several months worth of both canned and dry food and at least a month of litter (if I’m reasonably diligent about scooping). DH was in fact at less than two weeks of some of his prescriptions, refills ordered at the pharmacy (hoping they’ll be ready by the time we’re over there on Monday anyway). OTC meds are mostly OK, will be once that Costco order gets here. Feminine supplies are fine. I have good stocks of cleaning supplies (including bleach) and paper goods (including TP, paper towels, kleenex, and napkins). We have some more isopropyl alcohol coming Tuesday. Between the alcohol and my supply of bleach, I should be OK for household disinfecting needs. Between large collections of books and BluRay/DVDs, plus good Internet, looks like entertainment if we wind up stuck at home for a couple of weeks will not be a problem.

I do not consider bottled water urgent, since I see no reason to think we won’t have city water. We have no need of infant/child supplies, being middle-aged non-parents.

Have I missed anything?

I want to thank people who crossed appendages for me.

But I should have known better than to trust an employer, in this case potential employer, to keep their word. My current employers are underhanded jerks. And the guy who interview me yesterday did not keep his promise to respond today, one way or the other.

I hate my life.

(((cupcakes))) feel better. Sometimes life gets in the way of living. I’ll bet they won’t hire til the ongoing crisis is over.

I’ve had a good day. I hate being stranded here, but I realize it’s the best place for me. Trying look at the positives and ignoring the downside.

Nice visit from my Brother.
Food is still edible.

Y’all have productive weekends. I’ll be here waiting to read food porn☺️

Happy Saturday!

It’s rather chilly outside, looks like it’s going to rain.

I’m feeling horrible today, starting to think that it is not allergies but that I am coming down with something.
I wanted to do some more stuff around here today, but I went to bed instead.
I feel bad for the dogs, they want me to come outside with them, but I am freezing and can’t get warm. Times like this I wish I had a hot tub, or a big soaker tub.

I am so tired of hearing about the corona virus, and getting emails from companies that don’t have a reason to talk about it other than to fake concern. Macy’s? Weis? 1800PetMeds?
A guy at the park told me he went to Weis and about half the shelves were empty. I have a few things that I order from da jungle prime pantry, and almost everything I order is out of stock.
I’mm not really worried about it, I have plenty of stuff to get through at least two weeks. The cat has enough food for months, the dogs have plenty and if I run out they can eat cat food. I probably should gas up the truck as it is below a half tank, gas might be the next to be in short supply. Not that I go anywhere anyway except the park. The dogs wouldn’t be happy to skip it, but they’ll live… unless I kill them for being obnoxious little brats. Poor Echo, she was chewing on the cat and I threw my shoe in that direction to distract her. Instead she got thunked right on the head. Didn’t hurt her any, but she let go of Adam.
Friend2 orders her groceries from walmart, Nettie, and the same thing for her. No options for pickup that day or the next.

I got my census ‘invitation’ today. Since when is it against the law to refuse an ‘invitation’?

I wouldn’t get too upset CupCakes, everything is all twisted around lately with all this corona stuff and the guy who interviewed you will probably still call. When I got hired for my job, they screwed up everything. They were late for every interview, were totally unorganized. At one point I thought if they are this disorganized before I evern get hired I can’t imagine the hell it will be to irk for them. The job has been great (up until they messed with the website - which I still cuss on a daily basis), they just had a few issues going on and everything was out of whack.

Guess I’ll do the census thingie and then log in to irk.

I’m surprised she didn’t get a few surprise facial piercings courtesy of feline claws. Adam must be a very patient cat.

Saw something online about Instacart and similar services having a major surge of demand. So glad I got that subscription that gets me unlimited free deliveries (which does require a minimum purchase, but it’s not a hard one to reach). I do need to feed the car, since I still do have to go to irk. I see no possibility of WFH, since my call center handles sensitive financial info, and I do concede legitimate problems securing customer data if people are not on the secured company network and with sups around to make sure no one’s recording info by other methods.

Went to Bi-Mart today to get laundry detergent and dish soap. Looked for >91% isopropyl alcohol 'cause Wifey wanted some to make sanitizer.* Couldn’t find it.
We have about 3 or 4 weeks worth of TP, but I looked anyway. It looked like locusts had been through there.
So then I went over to Freddies (Kroger) to get some of the dark chocolate salted caramels we’re addicted to. Their TP aisle was a vast wasteland too. We know they got a shipment of TP last night 'cause a friend of ours posted a picture of their guys with a huge pallet of Quilted Northern in the store aisle to be unloaded. It was all gone at 1:00 pm today. Yeah, I shoulda got up earlier. but like I said, we have lots, for now.

I just tried to add something to my ‘wish list’ on amazon and they wanted me to sign in, which is annoying but so what. But then they want me to enter an extra code to make sure it was me. Sure, why not. Except that they want to send it to me via e-mail. So I put in my e-mail and I wait.
And wait.
And wait.
Finally. le sigh

  • A friend of ours who has a compromised immune system had a huge jug of aloe vera gel. She mixes it 2 to 1 (2 parts isopropyl alcohol to 1 part aloe gel) to make sanitizer and she gave us a little jar of aloe so we could make some too. I already had alcohol 'cause I use it to clean my (model) train tracks. She also said that she has a huge stock of TP. If this goes on too long we may have to barter with her for some. 'Specially as I’m on a med that gives me diarrhea.

Did you check your spam filter for that code?

Might consider Imodium to compensate for that med’s side effect. I have diabetic relatives who find that useful with metformin.

Google online sources for your isopropyl alcohol. I found a decent one, with my order arriving by FedEx on Tuesday as of last tracking. I would seriously reconsider using standard rubbing alcohol (70% isopropyl) in DIY hand sanitizer, since I’m seeing a lot about needing at least 60% alcohol for it to be effective and diluting with aloe would probably get you below that.

sari, you may want to see if the dog park is even open. I took Nelson this afternoon, but all of the city parks here were closed until further notice, except the municipal golf course and the greenways. The greenway is blocked wherever it enters a park.

One thing about this thing, I have a feeling that I’ll become more familiar with the greenways. When we were walking on the Air Base trail, we saw some familiar faces from the dog park. Everybody on the trail has to be on leash, but at least we’re getting outside.

I cleaned and did some organization of the laundry/storage room today as well as three loads of laundry and scrubbing the fridge. Tomorrow is reserved for cooking chores. Food porn for becks: supper is house special soup (pork, chicken, shrimp and veggies in broth) and an aigroll from the decent Chinese next to Kroger. I was able to get the test strips, some lancets, a couple of bags of treats for Nelson and even scored a half gallon of ammonia (the cleaning spree this morning reminded me that it was time to replenish). I have a feeling that I’ll only be shopping for fresh produce and dairy for the duration.
