Foods You Prefer The "Plain" Version Of

Oatmeal was a good mention above… I’ll go one step further and say Steel Cut Oats.
Peanut Butter as plain as possible
Steak… maybe salt & pepper… lightly. No steak sauce or other seasonings. (I suspect this is a common one though)

Inside the meat? Definitely not. Salt or salt and pepper on the meat? Definitely yes.

I second yogurt (it’s shocking to me how hard I have to dig sometimes to find the plain yogurt–and I can almost never find it in single serving containers), oatmeal, steak, french fries. If you call vanilla ice cream “plain,” then you can add ice cream to the list.

I’ll add tortilla chips to the list.

I also like most my alcohol neat.

I prefer plain tortilla chips to any kind of Dorito.
Toast…butter and salt, nothing else please.
And steak, for sure. Red on the inside, nicely browned/crispy on the outside…the only things that should be added to that are a sharp knife and a salt cellar.

How do you feel about plain Doritos?

Feta cheese. Can’t stand the sundried tomato or herb-flavors. Just want big chunks of creamy, salty goodness on my salad, thank you.

Donuts

I prefer a plain cake donut, but will eat a yeast donut. But only if they are plain. No frosting, no powdered sugar, no cinnamon, no jelly. No nothing.

Tea. I like it black, unsweetened, and unflavored.

Fish. I prefer it baked with no sauces or seasonings.

potato chips
hamburger (nothing mixed in to the meat, just a little salt and pepper before cooking)
baked potatos with butter and pepper ( keep the sour cream far away)
pie (ice cream on warm pie; how can that not turn into a soggy, room-temperature mess)

If you can find them, I’ll eat them. I haven’t seen plain Doritos in years; it’s all Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch.

Cole slaw. Either the creamy kind made with mayonaisse or the one with a vinegar base and celery seed. But it must only contain shredded cabbage and carrot. No broccoli. No julienned bell peppers. No apples. No cheese (?!) And get that Godawful North Carolina stuff made with ketchup out of here!

Without the salt too.

I like the plain salted Tostidos chips.

What?

Until recently I hadn’t seen them since my family moved back east from Oklahoma in 1980. However, on a trip to Spearfish South Dakota I found some in Walmart. They’re hiding them all in out of the way townships, apparently.

Unflavored coffee. That syrup crap they put in coffee is ghastly.

Potato chips: I like mine with salt, or salt & pepper; none of that chemically enhanced flavor.

Tortilla chips: salted. No nacho flavor or any of that “after midnight” crapfest Doritos has come out with

French fries: salt and maybe a bit of mayo. Ketchup is for losers.

Mashed potatoes: butter or gravy; no garlic, no skins, no bits of unidentified flotsam.

Bacon: plain. No maple flavoring or other weird shit.

Burgers: salt and pepper, cooked medium, or I’ll kill you dead.

Mayonnaise: don’t even get me started on “baconnaise” or Miracle Whip.

Cheese? In coleslaw? What kind of backwards people do this? All the other ingredients up to and including ketchup I could sort of see, but cheese?

For me the list of things I like that aren’t the plain version would probably be shorter. I am weird that way.

In fact my dream one day is to have chocolate chip cookies without the chips. Does anyone make those?

ice tea = ice+tea
nothing else

jello, no fruit, no veggies and dear god no mayonaise

Sweet potato. No butter, no salt, no cinnamon, just plain.

Yogurt. I’ll sweeten it myself with fruit - flavored yogurt is like candy (I like candy, but not for breakfast).

Oatmeal, or preferably oat bran.

Steak. A good steak shouldn’t need anything else. Ditto scotch.

Cheesecake. It’s perfection already - don’t fuck it up by adding raspberry/mocha/key lime sauce/reductions/additions bullshit. Leave. My. Cheesecake. ALONE.

*WHAT?

Sugar cookies?

Me, too!
