Football Jersey Wearing Etiquete Question: Undershirt or No?

If a male was about to put on a nonsee through football jersey, does proper etiquette mandate he wear a shirt of some sort underneath? Does outdoor temperature matter? Also, does it matter if it’s actually being worn at a football or if this hypothetical guy is just going to the mall or where ever for daily chores?

So, what’s the word?

I voted “generally wear something” but would rather not have the “if…” at the end. IOW, wear whatever the heck you like–there isn’t etiquette on this. Whether an undershirt is worn should be entirely dictated by personal preference and/or the weather. (The jersey may well have a longer life, however, if an undershirt is worn. Less washings might be needed.)

edit: you might do better having this poll moved to the sports and games forum.

Seems like it’d be more comfortable with a t-shirt underneath, but if it’s not see-through then there’s really no “etiquette” to it.

I specifically neglected the option of “wear what you want” because that’s all people would put in the poll and that’s not what I’m aiming for. Like it or not, with regards to certain types of clothing there are guidelines and rules of thumb to follow. Football jerseys and the wearing thereof may or may not have any associated etiquette “rules”, but that’s what the poll is for.

Also, even if no one posts, as long as they do vote in the poll I’ll be able to get a slight view as to what’s proper or not.

Kids over the age of 13 should not wear football jerseys, unless you play football.

Otherwise, if you do, no one really cares if you wear a t-shirt or not…so you choose.

And women, because there’s something about a woman in a football jersey that’s just dead sexy. And she should just wear a bra underneath, like my wife does.

What was the question?

Uh, no. When I wear my jersey, I’m probably out in public, watching the game at a restaurant or my sister-in-law’s. When they come out with jerseys that are a) cut for women and b) not freakin’ pink, I’ll dispense with the long-sleeved T-shirt that I wear under it. Until then, ain’t nobody gettin’ any free peeks.

I’m not sure. Thinking of your wife in just a football jersey and bra has distracted me too. Actually, forget the jersey.

MsRobyn: What free peeks do you speak of? Football jerseys, provided you buy one your size, aren’t going to be giving any such things.

Exhibit C

I wear an undershirt because the stitching on the jersey bothers me. And it just feels too thin to wear on it’s own.

For Sundays game I’ll probably have about six layers on underneath since it will be freezing.

I don’t think there is any jersey etiquette outside of making sure the player on the back doesn’t suck.

It’s Florida. I don’t wear anything under anything if I can help it.

American Football, right? You wear your pads under your jersey, unless it’s practice in which case you wear whatever you need underneath to keep warm. Otherwise, don’t wear them. Except for women. There I agree with Corkboard.

Anyone want to offer their differing opinion? I’d love to hear them and have something resembling a discussion. :stuck_out_tongue:

My opinion is that the girl in your Exhibit A is rather lovely.

But what makes it sexy is that she’s wearing a guy’s jersey, which incidentally isn’t pink- it wouldn’t be the same if it was cut for a woman. It’s like how a woman wearing her guy’s button-down shirt is sexier than if she’s wearing her own blouse.

And anyway, nobody’s getting a peek of anything; you can see less than if she was at the beach. The combination of the shirt and bra obscure nipple shots and what-not. When you’re sitting in the stadium in the sun, any extra layers make it too warm.

Wow. It’s amazing how differently each teams jersey made you look!

I LOLed.

Duplicate post.

If nobody can see your underwear then I fail to see how any etiquette would be involved!!

I have two problems. I’m pretty hefty, and I’m rather, um, stacked. I need to wear a fairly large jersey if it’s going to fit comfortably. This means the sleeves are baggy enough that I show more than I’m comfortable with if I raise my arms. So until I can find a jersey that is cut for women, I’m stuck wearing the ones I have. Hence the undershirt.
