For Better or For Worse: WTF is up with the ending this week? (open spoilers)

Well, it’s just too bad this message board wasn’t around back in the days when I was sucked into the vortex that is “Mary Worth.”

Yeah, Anthony is kind of a weenie.

Who are Gordon and Tracey? Anthony’s boss and his wife? Have we met them before?

What’s “Copter Boy”'s name? Is he the guy on whose shoulder Liz dozed off on the bus? How did they meet?

Gordon is one of Mike’s best friends from high school. He went into business for himself and is quite successful.

And yes, “Copter Boy” is the same guy that was Liz’s pillow.

Warren. I think they met on that bus trip…Elizabeth was going back for her third year at university and they met on the way up.

I dunno, a thought occurred to me earlier today. The look on Therese’s face is really rather unusual. Normally she just looks like a frosty bitch, but her expression in the last panel looks more… sad. Maybe she realizes that Anthony didn’t walk Liz to her car because of the way she’d react, and feels guilty that her insane jealousy led to Liz being hurt?

Just a thought, I’ll very likely be shown wrong.

No, I think it’s that she realizes that Anthony cares more for Liz than for his own wife. Or at least that’s her perception of the situation. Anthony’s not looking at her in that panel, he’s looking after the ambulance.

Forgot to say: chela, you can read the strip online at unitedmedia.com, or comics.com if you want to see it in color.

You can also read the “Monthly Letters from the Pattersons” that are posted over at fbofw.com. The January ones have some interesting comments about the Anthony/Therese/Liz thing.
FBOFW is one of two strips I read regularly - and like someone else, I was worried that Liz was hurt much worse (I thought that she was going to be stuck outside until the party let out).

I like Anthony, so I’ll stick up for him here. Yes, he has trouble saying what he wants and speaking up for himself, and guys like that usually end up with women who have no trouble giving orders (just with them not being immediately followed).

I think they really are friends, but that Anthony wanted more at one time, and hasn’t gotten over the fact that that ship has sailed.

BTW: I vote for copter boy too – I think he’s a great possibility for Liz, but Liz does have a way of making her life more difficult than it needs to be.

I like her too, but what’s the book? “Smart Women, Foolish Choices”

Much more interesting than the miserable little soap opera April is experiencing.

Plus, Michael has two kids and a wife – plus a great big job – what’s going on there these days?

What a cool link! Thanks for sharing this. Reading through Mike’s letter, it reminded me that we haven’t heard a thing on the Weed/Carleen front in a long time - but it sounds like they’re happy and in love, eh?
::reminds herself that this actually still just a comic strip::

What soap opera? April’s been preoccupied with playing in the band, plagiarizing her homework, and patronizing the Special Needs girl. Nothing soap opera-ish there. (Except she did share her chewing gum with Gerald. )

We went through that shortly after Halloween. The baby was born, Mike told the shrewish MIL to hit the bricks, then he and Deanna found out they couldn’t deal with a newborn and a toddler in the same house, so Elly, aka SuperGrandma, flew to the rescue. Now they’ll be back burner for a while.

Also, I take issue with today’s strip. Apparently, Liz’s dislocated knee was diagnosed on the spot and while she was unconscious. Why weren’t the paramedics more concerned about what was most likely a concussion? When she came to, they should have been asking if she knew her name and what day it was, and telling her to follow their finger with her eyes. Let the ER docs examine the knee.

Obviously a symptom of that Canadian socialized medicine…

Perhaps the first time, outside a panning review, that “sucked” and “Mary Worth” have coexisted in the same sentence!

I know there has never been a Mary Worth thread. With the glacial pace at which that strip moves, the no resurrection rule would have tohave been lifted for the thread to work.

I think they’ve just about given up. The last one had the evil drug dealing con get caught the very first time he did anything. This one has the old flames connect up with no impediments at all. I mean yawn people.

What would be interesting would be if Johnston started a storyline where Anthony and Liz acted on their obvious still-existent attraction. All of the Pattersons have always been such “good” characters - it’d be different to see one of them do something like break up a marriage.

To be fair, it’s April’s “friend” (what’s her name?) that’s been horrible to the special needs kids. April tries to be nice in her own way. She needs to dump that friend of hers. Kick her out of the band or something.

I noticed in the January letter she got a cell phone. I wonder if any inane April plots will involve that.

I thought Liz had moved in with her boyfriend or something??? When did they break up??

He was cheating on her, they broke up… a long time ago - towards the end of her second year at school, I think.

Yeah, Liz broke up with Eric before she even met Warren. She’s living and teaching at a First Nations (Ojibwa) village now.

Let me just toss out there that Lynn Johnston herself married a ‘flying boy’. Her husband was an outback (or whatever they call it up there) dentist when they met. He flew from small village to small village providing dental care.

I’m just saying…is all.
