So, who else thinks that if Elizabeth goes north a day early that she’ll find out Paul has been seeing that other gal?
And Warren will just happen to be there to console her?
Looks like Anthony comes in third again!

I don’t get it. I must have missed a few days. Why is she flying back to visit when she just left there to teach back at home? And doesn’t Warren know most tickets these days are non-refundable? And how did he know she’d even have time to fly back for a visit? I’m confused…
Elizabeth has been back from up north for some time, several months at least. She’s tried to keep in touch with Paul, but they haven’t really seen each other.
I don’t know about the tickets though, maybe somehow they were just reservations?
I went to the monthly letters section to see if there was an update that mentioned Warren - often the creator seems to use it as a way to fill in backstory without using strip space on it (which has got to be confusing for readers who aren’t on the Internet) - and it sounds like she and Paul E-mail nearly daily. There wasn’t anything about Warren knowing about her arrival, btw.
The strip has shown her emailing Paul several times, with the content of the emails seeming to indicate that they email frequently.
No idea how Warren knew she was going back north. But they did part as friends, so it seems reasonable that they email, too, or keep in touch via Myspace or Facebook or something.
Eek – I hit Post too quick.
Meant to say that Johnston has mentioned before that the thing about a strip with characters who ‘age’ normally is that one strip a day isn’t enough to keep the reader totally caught up on everything they’re doing. The reader has to ‘fill in’ for him or herself. IE. “Look! It’s Warren – they must have been keeping in touch somehow.” Rather than “Look it’s Warren – where did he come from? We haven’t seen him since he left!”
It won’t break my heart much if Paul and Liz break up, but I’d rather have it be that once they are together again they realize that they’ve grown apart, than have them break up because he’s cheating on her. Old Liz has had to deal with that once before.
Either way, I’d be happy to have Warren on hand if Paul and Liz do break up – I am very much in the ‘hate Anthony’ camp and definately don’t want to see Liz end up with him.
I edited the title of the thread to include a reference to the comic strip name. No biggie; there are a lot of “Elizabeth” characters floating around out there, so this will help out the posters who are scanning the thread titles.
Ok, reading it, it does not seem to me that Warren know she had concrete plans to go north, but was making a random offer while he was in town, and coincidentally she has tickets:
“I know this is a crazy suggestion, but I have to fly north tomorrow and I could drop you off in Mtigwaki if you want to visit.”
God, I hate Anthony. Either of these other guys is far preferable to the lamest man in Canada.
In other news, I can’t believe I care enough to post about this.
I’m not sure what’s going on, but I don’t like the facts that: (1) Elizabeth is apparenntly just so darn desireable that she has three separate men pining for her. (Friday’s strip confirms Warren is still carrying a torch for her.) And (2) Everytime Johnston tries to draw Elizabether “beautiful” or “sexy,” Elizabeth just looks wierd, like in the fourth panel of Friday’s strip.
I’m not sure what’s going on with Paul. January’s letter from Elizabeth says Paul’s transfer has come through. Why would he have proceeded to get the transfer if he’s hooked up with someone in Mtigwaki? So I’m not convinced that E. will find he’s been 2-timing her when she arrives. But . . . Johnston has certainly foreshadowed in a way that indicates that might be happening. If it isn’t, why the foreshadowing? Is she just messing with the readers? And if it doesn’t, why bring Warren back? OTOH, if Paul is 2-timing, then Johnston has led people astray by portraying him as an upright Dudley Dooright, and she will confirm that E. has absolutely the worst possible luck and/or judgment with men. Johnston will also be plowing ground she’s already plowed – we’ve already seen the whole “Elizabeth gets betrayed” thing with Eric.
So I’m not sure what’s going on, but I don’t like it. If Paul isn’t stepping out on E., then the foreshadowing to that effect is superflouous. (Why introduce the character of the “old [girl] friend” who will be keeping him company after E. moves south, with whom he clearly has more in common than he does with E.?) If Paul is stepping out on her, then it’s “second verse, same as the first.” In either case, what the hell is Warren doing back?
I wonder if Warren dropping her off might not be headed somehow into Elizabeth is cheating on Paul territory. Not that she is, you understand, but it’s a pretty common plot trick in bad sitcoms.
Am I the only one who sees it this way:
It’s my likely scenario.
From the Friday strip, it looks like Warren might be contemplating creating his own opportunities. The mining company passenger could be a complicating factor in that.
Of course, if the other passenger “cancels” at the last minute, the plot will thicken…
Can someone please refresh my memory…why did she and Warren break up in the first place?
Plane crashes on the Tundra
Warren & Elizabeth are forced to fight off polar bears
Paul comes to the rescue along with the Royal Canadian Mounties
Warren and Paul both propose
Maybe if Elizabeth would make up her mind rather than being so wishywashy, she wouldn’t be in this sort of situation.
How about…
Plane crashes on tundra.
Warren & Elizabeth are eaten by polar bears.
The end.
Damn. If you could find some way to kill Anthony too, I’d be a happy woman. (Perhaps grief-driven suicide?)
“Love is a snowmobile racing across the tundra when suddenly it flips over, pinning you underneath. At night, the ice weasels come.” – Matt Groenig
… to each other!
I was assuming that Warren landed the helicopter on Anthony.
I can’t believe I’m still reading this strip…the fire plotline was so corny.
