She didn’t hear from him often enough, and they didn’t have a firm enough commitment, to keep her from hooking up with Paul.
Last Christmas, Paul was going to drive her to White River, from which she would take the bus back to her parents’ house. Then she got a call from Warren, offering her a ride all the way from Mtig to her parents’. The Queen of Passive Aggression struck a compromise in which Warren would pick her up in White River after Paul dropped her off. This cancelled out Paul’s plan to have her stay in White River a few hours so she could meet some of his family, plus which both men were put off when they found out that the other existed. Liz nominally chose Paul, but has somehow kept Warren on a short enough string to enable the current story arc.
Okay, you all drew me in. So I read some strips from 6 months ago. And I think those that say that Paul is cheating are probably right. But maybe Paul isn’t completely to blame.
See the story arc that begins on 5/27/06. Lots of foreshadowing.
Maybe it’s innocent, Elizabeth flips the hell out on him, and Paul angrily confronts her about her hanging him out to dry after he transferred (when she knew she wasn’t returning) and tells her to go pound sand? Nah, I don’t think I can wish for that much.
I’m beginning to think she may deserve to have Anthony be the last man standing, if Warren decides she’s no good.
So, if Paul was “building his future” around Elizabeth, what happened to change things?
Maybe Warren knew Paul was “with Susan” and dropped Liz off early so she would find out, in the worst possible way. The he might think he’d have another chance. But when she finds out his motive for the “friendly copter ride” she shoves Warren too.
Aw, shit. Elizabeth’s going to get screwed in romance again. I swear, if she ends up with that drip Anthony . . . .
To refine on Random’s post of the whole story arc, here is the strip where Paul and Susan reconnect. Yep, “Chipper” and “Suds” are old pals from childhood. Sigh.
For the online version, maybe each character can have their eyes blink differently.
You can even use the blinking to display differing emotions or even substance abuse problems: if one of the kids drop some acid or snort some coke (about as likely as Farley rising from the grave, I think), they could blink every half-second or something.
You might as well get used to it. Any guy who is good looking in the traditional sense winds up being a jerk. Anthony has gone through a hellish marriage with nobility, has rescued Elizabeth, and is Mr. all around nice guy.
This is going to be revenge for all the guys who complain that the nice guy never gets the girl. And have any nice guys not won out in this strip in the long run?
Maybe when the invevitable happens, Anthony will stop being drawn to look like a greasy dweeb.
