Yeah, I know, but it was still odd. I mean, they had been posting like rabbits (well, you know what I mean) and then suddenly nothing. Might also be 'cus I didn’t spell out “creation” and “evolution” in the thread title, but just called it “c/e.”

Not that I know of. We should invite her over, she seems capable of rational discourse. She might like it better here. We could use some more women in GD too.
(I am speculating that Meara is a she based on her username. Unwise, perhaps)

Gaudere, your assumption is correct. According to http://www.leftbehind.com/cgi-bbs/Forum2/HTML/004199-3.html , Meara is a 22-year old woman, married, no kids. Her profile indicates that she is a Princeton-educated internet developer. (LBMB’s search function works, because they don’t have a bunch of non-believers moderating and administrating.

Based on her input over there, I agree that someone should invite her over.

Then Joshua TenForty wanted to know how he could tell the real JAB from the fake. I replied, “Faith.” Incidentally, no one has posted to that thread Over There since I replied to Josh.
I have taken steps to ensure that no one in the future can use my name and password. I either open a second Window and close the one containing The Straight Dope, or I turn the computer off and re-boot. Either way, my name and password remain secure.
(No one can read my password, of course; there are just six *'s up there in the space. But it can be used by anyone if I don’t erase it somehow.)

One argument against inviting Meara: She actually read the Left Behind series. Considering what somebody (Gaudere?) posted – an excerpt – I shudder at the mere thought.
I has hoping she had just stumbled on the board, as we did, and did not actually read–or worse yet, like–that crap. I would feel compelled to force-feed her some decent books if that were the case. IMHO, the Left Behind series is the Circus Peanuts of literature.
David - How is her reading something making it bad? I myself have been thinking of checking out a LB book because I like knowledge and try and learn things.
You do realize that saying something like that is like a creationist saying, “We can’t invite David to this site bcause he’s read science,” don’t you?

It’s really really really bad writing, Satan. Honestly, I don’t really care if she likes those books, she seems intelligent, but it’s like finding out someone thinks Harlequin novels are good literature.
I don’t know there’s a problem with her having read the books, only if she accepts them as gospel.

When was it down? I hadn’t noticed (though I’ve only checked in periodically today). I did notice that early this morning or yesterday (it all blurs together), I got an internal server error one time, but it was back up a few seconds later.
