Ah, but the reason it works is because they limit threads to 75 messages each and delete anything that hasn’t had responses in 14 days (and for other reasons we won’t get into here). It is the sheer size of the database that causes the search function here to flop around like a fish on dry land. Or, at least, that’s one of the reasons.
What exactly are you trying to say here? Are you insinuating we would do such a thing?

Krispy Original – voted SDMB’s 19th most popular poster (1999)
I posted The Wit and Wisdom of Mike Bagnall, a complete compendium of his posts on SDMB and LBMB over the New Year’s weekend, over on MPSIMS.
Seemed to be the right place for it, but thought a link on this page was appropriate.
I agree with the 19th most popular poster.

We considered and discussed closing down this thread. However, that’s not the way we work around here. We don’t close threads just because we disagree with them or they hold embarrassing information. This was obviously not my finest hour and it would suit me fine if people stopped responding and the thread sank away to hide with all the other dead threads, but I’m not going to use my moderating hat to close it because I don’t like to be reminded of it. If people want it to die, they can stop posting here. If people want to continue, they can keep posting. We won’t censor it just because a few people – or even a lot of people – don’t like the thread.

Yeah, besides, we don’t have to make fun of Pounders behind their back, now… We get to tell them to their faces now!
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Um… er… Kidding, y’all…

Except for that other, secret thread. Good thing you didn’t mention that one, Satan. Phew!
OK, I’m going to ask this on every thread I post on until I get an answer:
Where the Sam Hill is the “Most Popular Poster of the 20th Century Competition” thread? How did I miss this great competition, when I’ve been practically living on the SDMB for the past two months?
I don’t care whether anyone voted for me; I’m just bummed that I didn’t get to stuff the ballot box for some of my favorites, like Lib, ARG, and Phaedrus!
You must really be a good guy, RT, cuz otherwise I wouldn’t have waded through about 11 pages of MPSIMS threads to find this or waited out a 2 hour forum outage to post it.
I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!
Thanks, Manny - here I’ve been wondering for days what the Fred everyone was referring to. Looked back on various other fora, and even tried the search engine (a true act of desperation!), but never found either thread. Guess I just didn’t go back far enough on MPSIMS.
So thanks - you’re a scholar and a gentleman, and if we ever meet up, the beer’s on me.
And so, I find that I am almost completely invisible to the MPSIMS people…
Keep working on it, Doc. I’ve managed to be completely invisible in MSPMPSIMPSMS.
Maybe if you started a smiley war…
Maybe it should be called the “Most Popular Poster of the 20th Century in MPSIMS” competition.
And it shouldn’t be over yet, either, because the 20th century doesn’t end until January 1st, 2001…
I was going to post along the same lines of the last few people (that it was an MPSIMS contest), but I was trying to do so when we had problems here.
Anyway, RTF, you could start a Great Debates thread on the topic, just to show those MPSIMS folks, but the problem is that I’d have to throw it into MPSIMS for not being a Great Debate.
Why David what a delightful idea!
Did you ever have a word just pop into your head? All on a sudden I cannot get the word “swarmy” out of my consciousness…
What A GREAT nickname, Dr.F! I think I like it!!!
or maybe Smarmaduke, like a big dog that drools a lot !
Hey!! My title is OVERALL, folks! I am an avid poster in several forums here… As were most of the voters.
Damn MPSIMS snobs!
