But there are aspects of his viewpoint, on say soldiers being murderers that make a twisted sort of sense if you think about the issue from the angle Der Trihs does, right? I mean, you’d agree with that proposition wouldn’t you?
And that being so, calling him a troll (while, as you do, acknowledging that his viewpoint has significant support from other posters) makes no fucking sense whatsoever. You frankly don’t appear to know the definition of the word, or if you do you are making no reference to it in your current application. What you really mean is that his viewpoint upsets you and you don’t like him. Actually, I suppose a lot of people are using the word “troll” in that way these days. It’s losing its orginal meaning and coming to be as specifically meaningful as “asshole”: just another insult.

I’ve got to agree with this. Trihs isn’t a troll. He’s actually fucked-up enough to believe what he’s saying. He’s not trying to get a rise out of us. In his world, it all makes sense. Which is sort of why I’m having a hard time imagining him in that penthouse apartment with the beautiful girls.

No, the reason I call him a troll, is because in Great Debates he takes an extreme viewpoint and then A- Does not defend it, according to the rules of GD, and B- will handwave or outright ignore anything that is posted that contradicts this viewpoint. This is a large part of the very definition of trolling. He is doing the equivalent of sticking his fingers in his ears and yelling to avoid hearing anything he doesn’t like… which is fine in the pit, but not GD.
And that first bit, about his arguments making sense, from his point of view? That doesn’t fly either.
Several years back, we had a small invasion from a prominent White Nationalist website. The things they said about race made sense …from their point of view. Der Trihs is the same sort of situation.
He believes that all US servicemembers are guilty of murder. All of them, either directly, or by proxy. No matter the circumstances.
He has stated that we are engaged in genocide, with US soldiers patrolling the streets of Iraq, and killing anyone and everyone, with the intent of depopulating the nation.
He believes that nothing the US government or military says, or anyone associated with them in any way shape or form, can be believed. That they are all brainwashed liars who will support the viewpoint that ANYTHING good is happening, AT ALL.
He believes that relgion is universally evil, no matter the circumstances. He has stated that he believes religious faith is a mental illness.
He has stated that those that show religous faith (an illness) should be treated as such, up to and including hospitalization for their unstable and unhealthy worldview.
Anything that is brought up to dispute or disprove these statements is ignored. No proof, no statistic, no evidence will sway him from these beliefs. He’s not interested in debates, he’s trolling.

Any standard definition I can find involves posting controversial things for the sake of baiting people. Indeed, every definition I can find says that is the central element. There is nothing to suggest **DT ** does that, and everything to suggest he does not. You are on your own on this subject, even **LF ** doesn’t agree with you.
