With a statement like that is it safe to assume the people like yourself if put into positions of power and authority would persecute those who did not think like you?
No. I’d be cool. You’d know how it feels if your were surrounded by a society that worshiped unicorns despite the complete absence of evidence of their existence. Not sure how tolerant you’d be as the decades wore on, and even the sane people thought we should humor the unicorn worshipers. Shouldn’t someone say the emperor had no clothes? .
Doubtful. People who think others should be punished for thinking differently than they do are called Extremists. They aren’t known for being wise, forgiving or tolerant.

There’s really not room for debate. That’s why these guys are so annoying. I would simply like it if people stopped pretending that belief in gods was debatable. Sure, there are some very nice believers. There are some smart ones too. Bottom line though, god, as they conceive it/him doesn’t exist. Belief and disbelief in gods are not two equally valid alternative world views. Sorry to have to break it to some of you. I cannot for the life of me understand why we should respect a belief that is literally as outrageous as the tooth fairy.

Because you want him to respect your lack of belief. Is that not the point of this thread? To get the guy to stop proselytizing? How do you expect to do that when you are only confirming his belief that you aren’t a good person and thus need to be saved?
It’s one thread about a topic you don’t like. If it were any other subject, you’d just ignore it. Even if it was something was completely stupid. You might go in and say it was stupid, but it wouldn’t inspire a pit thread.
