So all this Diablo III talk made me all hornied up to play Diablo II again. It’s been just about 3 1/2 years since I played - I was hooked by WoW when that came out. I have a couple of observations :
It seems to me that rare drops have increased IMMENSELY. By the time I got to level 10, I had found 5 rares and a set item (Infernal Cranium). This seems high. By the time I hit 15, and beat Radament, I had found at least anothr DOZEN rares - no Uniques, but I’m using a lot of the yellows I’ve found.
I’ve gotten rares from gambling - wasn’t there a time when that was impossible? Maybe not… I remember when you could get uniques from gambling. I may have gambled an SOJ once, not sure if that’s correct, though.
It’s pretty easy. I’m playing a skelliemancer, and only had trouble in Tristram and with Blood Raven. Andariel was not too bad, and Radament only killed one of my skeletons.
Still addictive! I’m hooked, and, after playing for 20 minutes, my wife called me a bastard for getting her addicted again as well.
Anyone else playing DII, whether coming back like me, or new, or never did quit at all?
I starting playing through DII the day DIII was announced. I tried it briefly once when it firsrt came out and thought the graphics were embarrasingly bad.
Now the graphics are little better, a higher resolution helps, but the graphics are still incredibly outdated. The gameplay, however, is just so damn addictive even more so than the original Diablo IMHO.
I’m having fun exploring every nook and cranny and hoarding stuff like a packrat. I wish there more inventory slots though
Heh, I reinstalled it, too. Boy, the graphics are dated. Eight years is a century in graphics aging!
But yeah, way fun. I’m gonna have to play a while before I want to go online. I can barely remember how, plus it’s hard to tell what I’m doing with those lil small blocky characters.
I tried starting a thread similar to this, but as is my wont, I think I was a little too brief
Any of you looking to go back online with this at some point? I have the expansion on the way (I know, I never got it, what the hell!?) and I think I’ll be itching to get on with some more mature players…is there any way for us to find other dopers there?
The answer is yes, you can absolutely clear filled sockets. 1 Hel Rune + 1 Scroll of TP + Socketed Item with filled sockets. You lose whatever you filled the sockets with.
And yes, I am sorely tempted to play DII again. I was a little *too[/] into it: I played my share of IUVs, played characters to solo torch bosses, and wasted much of my life boss farming. I regret much of it, but I cannot wait to do it again. So it goes.
The only thing that finally turned me off were the cheats and hacks that interfered with battle.net.
ETA: In case the above recipe was not clear, combine the mats in your Horadric Cube and let 'er rip.
if you’re close in level let me know lute, and we can group up…I only got him to 2 today, but they expire in 10 days, of course. Look me up as Geberon on USEast
I decided to reinstall DII and played for about 45 minutes but then remembered why I stopped playing it in the first place - being able to click the right mouse button continuously doesn’t make for a good game experience, IMO.
Yeah, the demo for DIII got me interested to, so I reinstalled DII and started playing again.
Annoys me that I can’t seem to get my old characters back that I’ve been carefully saving in my “My Documents” folder for a couple of years now. I’ve followed all the instructions on how to transfer characters from one computer to another, but they don’t show up. They’re all Expansion characters, and I’ve got DII and the expansion installed. I know I didn’t have any problem transferring the characters from an older computer to the computer before my current one. Humph.
Oh well, I’m enjoying starting over anyway. It is an addictive game, isn’t it
A fundamental insight that needs to be expressed to head off comments like Illuminatiprimus’s at the pass:
The fun in Diablo and most clones does not involve finding clever or difficult ways to kill enemies using tactics. Rather the fun lies in designing your character. What guides this design is killing efficiency, and aesthetic enjoyment.
A secondary point of enjoyment in games like this is the discovery and appreciation of the game’s visual art.
Sorry - I meant the video demonstrating the Diablo 3 gameplay that’s available on Blizzard’s Diablo 3 website. I didn’t mean to imply that there was a playable demo out there. Sorry!
