Anybody still playing Diablo II?

I played with some guys on here a couple years ago, but had to quit when it wouldn’t work on my new Vista PC. Now it does. Anybody here still playing D2?

I was aching for a good arcade style roleplaying game recently, so I reinstalled Diablo2.

It doesn’t stand up well to the test of time, to say the least. I don’t think I got more than an hour in before I asked myself just what the heck I was doing, and couldn’t give myelf a decent answer.

I used to love playing Diablo II. Sadly, as I upgraded my PC over the years, the low resolution really started to strain my eyes. I’d love to play it in 1680x1050 resolution…

I’ve found that Titan Quest tends to fill that void left behind, though not completely.

Hey Rucks, there was a group of us playing when ladder reset (M here), but we all got bored again and quit. We got the ladder hammerdin halfway to level 98 and then gave up. I’d re-install if there was a good group who wanted to play regularly again.

Lost my original install when my PC blew up, but I’d reinstall it on the new PC if anyone was interested.

Are there any patches to improve the graphics available now? It must be the only game where the original looks better on high res than the sequel (admittedly I’ve got my PC set up for 2D graphics)

I like the game, myself. I am certainly not as accomplishes as you guys, but I might be in, if y’all start up.

Well, I’m playing, so I’m in. Any good stuff left out there? I still feel bad that I lost all of the good stuff that you guys gave me. I now have a lvl 83 'zon. (BTW, It seems that people use bots to run their high lvl characters through Baal runs over and over while their human masters sleep; and you’re welcome to join in. I got her from lvl 67 to 81 in about an hour and a half. Then I had to get to bed, because it was about 3:30 am. For the first few runs I was getting a lvl per run, and each run takes about 5 minutes.)

Because the game is about 8 years old, people will just give you good stuff. The first thing I did was create a game called “Gimme free crap”, or something like that, and I got a Lycander’s Aim and a bunch of other stuff from one guy. That’s the economies of online gaming, I guess.

Anyway, I’m rambling. My account is Rucksinator. All of my characters are named “Rucksi-Zon” and the like.

Dungeon Runners is a free online game which is rather like a 3D version of Diablo. It plays up a rather satirical treatment of the MMORPG genre but the core game is pure hack 'n slash (or cast 'n burn) against wave after wave of mobs. Classless characters who can pick and choose from skills among the three archtypes (fighter, mage, archer) and healing is done via potions. Also, gold can’t be traded so it’s purely a barter economy with a lot of give-aways.

The game is ad supported via a banner ad at the top and a chance for an ad during the loading screens although paying $5.00 a month removes the ads and gives you a wider array of equipment (currently 75% of the uncommon and 25% of the rare drops are available for free users).

This sounds kinda like Diablo (1). I was taking to a coworker last week about D2. He plays WoW, and pays $15 a MONTH!!! to play. Even when he didn’t play for a few months, he still paid so that he didn’t lose his stuff. Diablo only has a 1 time fee of $30 - 45 or so, and you can then play it free (with no banner ads) for 8 years. (I have, off and on). I still play Starcraft for free on Battle.net.

So, If you’re into this kind of game, you can’t beat it from an economical standpoint.

Sure. I was just giving helpful options. If it doesn’t sound like your thing then don’t do it

Hey, haven’t played in a while, logged on awhile ago and found my necro expired! I was so upset… Didn’t think it was 90 whole days since I played. Oh well.

I’m up for playing some if y’all want to again, or if there are people playing.

I’ll play the necro

Ok, last night after reading this thread, I decieded to start up a character again. I played for awhile last night and walked through act 1 up to rescuing Cain. I was doing it in a mule game, so my necro got to level 13 or so.

I’m going to play some more tonight probably, If anyone wants to contact me in game, I’m on US West Ladder account: *hirka

Ah, I miss those sleepless nights, getting lost in the underground dungeons looking for that bitch Andariel, hiding behind my paladin friends like the wimpy amazon I was. I was irrationally fond of Strafe as well. It came in handy in the jungle when you could barely see the tiny buggers that ran around like kids on crack and stabbed you with their dinner knives.

I guess I should have mentioned that I’m playing on US East.

If there’s a lot of good stuff on US West, then I’ll switch over, but I have a 'zon in the 80’s, and a Hammerdin that just made 41.

If it’s not too much to ask, Hirka, start over in US East. I’ll set you up with some stuff.

Also, can someone refresh me on how you message people?

Use the game name “straightdope” and password “Cecil”.

I bought it for the second time about six months ago, played it for about 6 weeks until I got to Diablo on nightmare, and either beat it or gave up. I don’t remember. Fun stuff, though!

Ok, I haven’t gotten far, so I’ll start an account on East. All our stuff we had on West is all gone anyhow.

I’ll start a new character right now on US East Ladder, same account name, hirka.

To message someone, when in game, be it the lobby or the actual game, type:

/msg *<Account Name> <Message Here>

Replace <Account Name> with the account you want to message. For me, you would type:

/msg *hirka Hi Hirka!

Also, whats your account name? The name you log in with.

ETA: I’ll be in game: sdmb Pass: cecil

So how did the character balance issues ever sort out? Did necromancers ever get balanced up to being able to use summoning and still be decent?

Oh, a summon necro is now one of the most powerful build. It is the only build where it is possible to beat hell naked (with nothing equipped). Infact a zoo keeper is the build I love the most.

Now, summon necros are room cleaners, they are not the best against single strong monsters. So you use them best clearing out large areas, while someone like a sorc or pally is best against single monsters, like the act bosses.

Now, that isn’t to say they can’t win, it just takes awhile. I’ve sat for over 10 minutes for my summon necro to kill baal in act 5 hell.

Yeah? How did the synergies work out- do you still use skeletons and skeleton mages by the end, or just Revives and golems? It was always so frustrating for me to find that my summoning necromancers were pretty ineffective in Nightmare and rarely reached Hell. Do you use curses or combat magic at all?
