This poll is for people whose parents gave them hyphenated names, and secondarily for parents who have chosen to hyphenate their childrens’ names. It is not for those who hyphenated their names later in life (upon marriage or whatever).
-
How did you/your child feel about having a hyphenated name growing up? Did you like it, hate it, not really care about it?
-
How do you/they feel about it now?
-
Do you/they still use your hyphenated name? If not, do you/they use the mother’s name, the father’s name, or a spouse’s name? Why did you/they choose this option?
-
If you/they have married, how did you and your spouse arrange your names?
-
If you/they have children, how are their names arranged?
In case you can’t tell, this is something that is looming large in my life at the moment. Oni no Husband and I each kept our names, and we’re trying to figure out what to do about the possibility of Oni no Offspring.
Lots of people have opinions on the topic, of course, but I’d really rather have the opinion of those who have lived it.
