Actually, I can see Faye treating that way more easily than Sven.
Still…squee! I love QC. I can’t wait to see the fallout from this! Oh, the drama. The sweet, sweet, sweet drama.
I wasn’t expecting this. It makes Faye look like an even bigger bitch for the way she treated Marten. It is hard to root for her.
BTW: I am enjoying Sinfest, thank you squeegee.

I dunno; she’s worked out a lot of issues since then. She (mostly) quit drinking, started exercising (with Penelope), has been seeing a therapist. I think the last sequence of discussions with Insecure Dora were meant to signal Faye mellowing and being less of a stressmonger about relationships (friendship in general, or now more-than-friends). I don’t see her as a bitch; she did the best she could with Marten, and is happy he’s happy, and she’s dealt with a lot of her own issues since then.

Maybe you are right. I just burnt through every comic in 2 weeks, so to me it seems very sudden, but for those following this strip for a time, it has been a while since she had her talk with Marten.

Actually, its probably been like 3 months in comic time. But that doesn’t seem sudden either, at least to me.
Yep, about 3 months versus last Wednesday or Tuesday for me. 
To clarify, its been like a year or more (two years?) in “our” time reading the strip since Faye told Marten she couldn’t return his affection. In strip time, for the characters, its been 3 months or something like that, since takes an extremely variable number of strips to make up one “day” for the characters.
Yeah. I started rereading the comics all at once last month, in order, so it feels like less than a year for me, but more than two weeks. Three months sounds about right, squeegee.
Jeph said somewhere that even he’s not sure how long its been for the entire strip, and guessed maybe six months. But he said that a while back.
I just re-read the current arc, and had an epiphany. It all starts with Dora saying to Faye, “we have GOT to get you laid.” and later, “I’m just saying, it could be good for you. Just 'cause you get weird in relationships doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t have yourself a good hard bang once in a while… I think its good to push your boundaries once in a while”, which is the phrasing Faye used to Sven in #1079, just before grabbing & kissing him.
To sum up, I agree with Photopat: this was about Faye pushing her boundaries. Having done that, she may be done with Sven, at least in bed. Or not, we’ll see. But I can just see a scene coming where Dora gives Faye shit about sleeping with Sven, and Faye fires back that “I was just pushing my boundaries, like you suggested”. Take that, Insecure Dora.
Faye does look awfully cute in today’s strip.
I think this could work, but it could also easily be fucked up. Sven is going to need to realize that this is not exactly a welcome surprise for Faye to wake up to, or she’s going to fly off the handle at him and tear this thing to pieces. On the other hand, it’s not as if this is just a huge drunken mistake; she wasn’t drawn all that drunk, and it’s clear from the language that she has feelings for him.
Damn, I wish I could be that insightful in my own relationships.
Here’s what I think will happen:
Faye will try to play this as a mistake. She will only reluctantly admit that this was 100% her fault.
Sven will botch the immediate postgame by treating it like a hookup. He will then be genuinely hurt by Faye’s rejection.
Dora will freak the fuck out. She’ll rail against Sven for seducing Faye, and when put right on that score will turn on Faye for being so stupid as to sleep with Sven, and then on herself when Faye points out that “push your boundaries” thing.
Raven will try to murder Faye. She will fail hilariously.
And here’s the thing that hasn’t been called twenty times before: Marten will be the only one actually cheering for Svaye. At this point, I think he’d be happiest seeing Faye happy, and more importantly, with himself off the hook so he can be less conflicted with Dora. He may even try to play Cyrano for a lovelorn Sven.
Alternately, items one and two with Faye actually getting Hanners to stay quiet… For now.
Do you guys think Hanners has told anyone at this point? I can see her confiding in her…um…I forgot her little robot’s name, who will tell AnthroPC who will tell Marten and…yeah.
Also, who is Beatrice Chatham? (Name on the memo.)
Her Anthro’s name is Winslow. (I wonder if Jacques is a Foglio fan?) I think Beatrice is Hanner’s mom.
