Yeah, I know it was cancelled. NBC promised to air 13 episodes and then reneged, but so this is a heads up post in case you don’t know that the episodes are available at the NBC website.
Also, a TWOP’er is posting recaps, if you aren’t able to watch on-line.
I keep waiting for a decline in quality to help explain the cancellation, but it just gets better, and so far, the plot is holding together and the writing is super sharp.
Our suspicions that the kidnappers aren’t after money has been confirmed and we’ve learned that Ellie Cain’s brother was kidnapped and never found.
The cancellation is explained pretty much by NBC’s fricking incompetence in how they scheduled and dealt with the show. First, Wed nights at 10 PM – horrible time slot, especially since it was going up against the highly-touted “The Nine” on ABC. I don’t know how that’s one’s doing in the ratings right now, but I notice that the big drop in Kidnapped (when they decided to move it to Saturday and cut to 13 week order) came on week 3 of Kidnapped – which happened to be the same night that “The Nine” premiered in the same time slot.
Duh.
I’m extra pissed at NBC because I cannot watch any archived episodes on the online “airings” – only the current week’s. So after catching up with the ones I’d videotaped (the two Saturdays it aired – episodes 4 and 5), I went online and found that I was unable to see episode 6. This week it’s been 7 (which they are incorrectly labelling “106”), and I had to watch it tonight, for fear that tomorrow when the next one airs, episode 7 will also be un-retrievable. And I’ve still missed ep. 6 completely (something about Ellie’s father? or somebody’s father? and money blowing up. Damn you NBC bastards).
It’s still a good show, and interesting plot-wise. But no, it’s much more important for NBC to air intellectually stimulating shows like Deal or No Deal. Which suitcase should I pick now? Darn I wish I’d studied a little more before trying this game!
I saw something recently about possible plans to release Kidnapped as a DVD next year. I hope at least they have filmed (or will film) enough to wrap up the story for this “season” by the end of whatever airs. I’d hate to think that they will just leave it hanging, unfinished.
I’d be glad to. There’s a weekly recap at TWOP. Kidnapped has been moved to the Dramas section.
Monstre, the big reveal in the episode you missed was that we now know the kidnappers aren’t after money. They exploded suitcases holding $40 million of Ellie’s father’s cash.
On the phone after the explosion, the kidnapper tells him “We don’t want your money.”
It was also revealed that Leo had encountered a man named George in a park a year ago, who said to him “I’ll be coming for you.” Conrad Cain seems not to want Knapp to investigate this guy.
Right – That much I was able to see, because they showed those parts on the “Previously on…” recaps at the start of episode 7. I’d just like to be able to see the missing episode at some point. Dammit. (grrrrrrrrrr!) giving evil-eye to NBC
Well, this was part of the episode I just watched last night (#7), so unless they did it in both eps, and #7 had just a repeating of the info to another character…?
This was the one where Virgil flashed back on that info where Leo was sketching pictures of the guy and told him about it.
