For what it's worth I'm with JB99

“Far worse than what Brett Kavanaugh was accused of”? Pfffffft.

What chance do you think there would be of Paula Blasey (assuming she knew about what happened and it was as Blasey Ford describes now) telling Brett Kavanaugh in 1982 that she didn’t think he had done anything wrong? Zero or zilch? :dubious:

ETA: We’ve got to stop using this sexist phrase “took her virginity” (yes, I know that’s how BPC originally phrased it). Yuck.

Well, the worse alternative is that he gave it back. Blech.

Is it sexist? I’ve seen it used for men/boys as well. In this particular case, I think that the fact that it was her first time makes the offence worse, as well.

Is there a different phrasing we should use, or should it just not be mentioned at all?

How about “it was her first time” or “she has only ever had sex with me”?

“Gave it back”: is that some kind of joke? If so, I don’t get it.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt your wroth with pith.

Fair enough, still not sure I see why it needs changing though.

Because it represents this archaic idea of a “maiden’s” virginity as this precious possession. Same thing you see intensely to this day, for that matter, in conservative religious communities.

Cicero, Virgil, random and forgotten internet posts made to a forum from years before you “joined”…

P.s. of the above three classics of ancient literature, I’ve only seen you demonstrate a knowledge of the last one. Perhaps a re-evaluation of your life is in order?

Meh. It’s a gender-neutral phrase, even if virginity is more prized in women then men.

If you say so. Personally I have never heard anyone say “she took away his virginity”.

I’ve heard women talk about themselves taking a man’s virginity. Maybe this is a US/UK difference? Or just my friends…

I’ve never heard the expression “to take away [a person’s] virginity” at all. Have you?

You quoted something from the past?!? Are you a sorcerer too?

I’ll respond to this question once I finish reading all the posts made to this site in 2008.

What the fuck?? “Took or lost his/her/my virginity” is not sexist at all. All variations are common and gender neutral. Your outrage seems odd.

Incels are weird dudes.

If you’re talking about me, I don’t think the moniker quite fits given that I am married and have four kids.

Yes.

Even were it gender-neutral, it is still based on the notion that virginity is a thing of value that can be taken or given or that having mutually consensual sex with someone can be a taking. That’s a notion grounded in sex-negative assumptions. And it’s still gross.

Oh, I get it. This is yet another SlackerIncism: “I can’t be sexist!! I abhor (what my bigoted, racist, disingenuous self calls) sexist language! So back to my scientific discussion as to why women don’t ever deserve alimony.”

Read the whole linked thread. It was pretty funny, actually. I don’t think BPC did anything too seriously wrong based on his story. He had sex with a girl close to his own age, maybe not quite as close as she had led him to believe. The only evidence for her “developmental disabilities” is the word of her mother, who may not be a reliable reporter.

Fenris is just being a dick here.

Speaking of developmental disabilities, WillFarnaby seems like a classic Asperger’s case. I always picture him as Melvin Sneedly from the Captain Underpants series. Put on ignore list and move on.
