Forbidden Forest - Unspoiled Harry Potter Mafia Discussion

Going to be? as in you aren’t already?

I’m using the wrong bookmark because, in the game at another site, I see the labeled forbidden thread and experience a slight “Imp of the Perverse”(*) fear I might click there. (Even without clicking I see the most recent who/when – I suppose after interesting game-thread posts I could monitor that and draw inference from any flurry of activity! )

(* - a word I learned in a Mahaloth thread!)

These forbidden threads can get confusing. I’ve the password for the Harry Potter very forbidden thread, so perhaps shouldn’t even be posting here in the merely-forbidden thread. Reminds one of Pentagon security levels!

special ed and I are both in Conspiracy 4, so I get a slight tinge of illicitness by responding to him here. Does anyone else suffer from “Imp of the Perverse”? and why doesn’t it have a fancy Greek name?

“” …and there goes the last of my waning enthusiasm for this game. Let’s just lynch someone and get the game over with, OK? It’s too frustrating to actually try to play when stuff like this keeps happening. “”

Would the bolded be PIS ? Or just the math ?

Players already knee-jerking to “Oh noes game iz ovr?” seem to be … need to be looked at.,No ?

(Haven’t actually read the game thread)

I think the bolded is just wishful thinking. The person you are quoting is intensely frustrated and wants the game to be over. It’s possible that it is actually PIS or math, but I suspect it’s more wishful thinking.

You’re actually talking about two roles here.

The “Tracker” is the role who sees what actions their target takes.

The “Watcher” is the role who sees what actions other players take on that target.

As town roles, they are weaker than a full detective. As scum roles, a tracker is about the equivalent of, and a watcher is actually more useful than a detective.

Yes, if it did. But it doesn’t look like a handshake. Does the knowledge that Jimmy Chitwood has the Snitch, and GuiriEnEspaña has never had it, actually tell you anything about those players?

Damn right.

It’s incredibly frustrating to put hours and hours of thought and strategy into a game, while others are barely playing, editing posts, reading the forbidden thread, and generally playing sloppy. It really sucks the fun out, and it makes me not want to play anymore.

I agree it is a bummer what has happened in this game, but for the future of mafia games, I think it was the right choice. A good strict enforcement of the rules will hopefully make future games better.

But with what went down, Town is actually benefitting from the modkill. It might negatively affect game play, but as for winning, it gives Town an extra lynch. I think it was a strong possibility that Town would have voted to lynch HardlySanguine Today. Now they can lynch someone else.

As for Inner Stickler, I’ll be shocked if he is scum.
(1) his one-off vote was for Town. If he was scum, I would think that his ineffective vote would at least go somewhere scummy. Though if there is only one scum left, then I guess that doesn’t apply.
(2) he could easily join the bandwagon and slide by. He wasn’t causing the lynch and there are plenty of other voters in the lynch.
(3) he wasn’t protecting HardlySanguine because Hardly is known Town.

Thanks.

This game continues to be an amazing, weird, wonderful, terrible, fascinating, depressing, frustrating, and highly different experience for me on many levels.

Whenever it does reach its conclusion, I’ll have tons to say about it and its many unbelievable happenings.

See! I’m oddly in tune with storyteller in this game. It’s truly bizarre.

Oh, absolutely. I’m not annoyed at Mahaloth enforcing rules, I’m annoyed at players being lazy and stupid.

I mostly agree with you both. Initially, I thought Stickler’s vote was scummy, but since the scum then killed me, it doesn’t really make sense. I’m not yet sold that he’s Town, but I would call that vote neutral now.

FTR, Jimmy has misremembered. It was a golden egg, not a snitch.

You have no idea.

Did I miss something or has no one claimed to be Ron? Seems kind of funny there wouldn’t be a Ron in this game.

Y’know, actually, that’s a point in favor of Inner Stickler. If he were Scum, claiming last, with as major a character as Ron unclaimed, it’d be the obvious choice. Claiming McGonagal makes most sense if it’s actually true.

I hate, hate, hate this attitude. Deferring to confirmed town players reduces the amount of information that Town gets from the lynch and the confirmed town players aren’t any more likely to be correct than the unconfirmed town. Following the masons seems to cost the Town way more often than it helps them IMO.

Yeah, plus town –> right is just as true as wrong –> scum.

and i want to publicly apologize to maha. i told him i would help him in this game and then rl intruded and nothing from me.

but excuses are like belly buttons, everyone has one.

Story has the right idea, if only Town could be organized enough to pull it off - set a deadline of say noon Wednesday for all other votes to be in, let Story pick a target, then all line up behind the confirmed Town.
