Forbidden Thread - Mafia: The Mob is Recruiting

I feel bad for my HazelNutCoffee.

Really? I hadn’t been counting. I was judging based on fluiddruid’s counts which were noted to be flawed, but even with the flaws Blaster Master was dying. Blaster Master’s vote shift was pretty significant.

I really hope she doesn’t get recruited. She deserves the win for this one.
I hadn’t thought about her being an investigative role. I doubt she would be so vociferous if she was a Cop or Chief. Possible, but I think she’s vanilla or mason. Her aggressiveness seems most fitting to those roles. Masons can be crazy aggressive since their role is confirmable.

Well, I’m not 100% sure, but I think it was 10-8 against Darth when Blaster switched at the last minute, making it 9-9.

She has played extremely well and definitely deserves a win. If she does get recruited, though, think how much Townie cred she’ll have  You’re probably right about Mason, upon reconsideration - I was thinking since there were multiple Beat Cops + maybe a Chief, if she were a BC she might not be shy about playing hard, but Mason makes more sense.

fluiddruid has confirmed the tie!

Die Darth Sensitive Die! HazelNutCoffee must prevail!

Yay!

All right - go Town!

And here is where Blaster’s gambit failed big time. IF he had left his vote on Darth and not forced the tie, he could have argued vehemently Tomorrow that Darth coming up Boss is good evidence of his Towniness. It’s a thin plank, admittedly, but one that could have possibly worked and at least distracted the Town. Now he’s got no credibility at all and no one is going to listen to him (and they’ll probably lynch him quickly).

Town was more lucky than right. Though Town was in a tougher position since presumably all the scum were voting for Blaster Master. Quite frankly this game is all but over now. They need to lynch and investigate all the Blaster Master Voters. That should pretty much tie it up for the Town. There’s what 18 players left? 17 at Dawn? and only 3 scum (1 of whom is already identified)? Plus all the powerroles?

This should be an easy win for the Town.

  1. Mass Roleclaim
  2. Identify very nearly confirmed Town (my short list is HNC and Drain Bead).
  3. Identify nearly confirmed Town (Darth Sensitive Voters)
  4. Identify Masons
  5. Kill Blaster Master
  6. Investigate unknowns (Blaster Master voters -minus Drain Bead +plus Hawkeyeop)
  7. Kill an unknown or IDed scum (preferably MHaye).
    repeat until WIN

I don’t think it’s plausible for scum to win. The numbers are very much against them.

Even if they throw out all the information they gathered thus far, a fresh game (Phase Two) with 2 scum and 15 players, wildly favors Town.

Yep, you pretty much nailed it, which is why Blaster’s gambit was too risky. IF he was still in play, scum might have a slim, slim chance, depending on how much obfuscation he could dish out. As it is, it would take a complete miracle for scum to win at this point. Also, Darth not recruiting on Night One turns out to have been a huge error.

That it did.

Seemed harmless at the time, but…
It was dang hard to stay out of here, I got used to reading the the “not playing” threads when I wasn’t playing.

Did I really look that scummy from outside the game?

Well you didn’t look scummy enough that everyone watching pinged you. But check my post a couple of pages back that I put together right after I was lynched.

To be honest, I didn’t catch on until sach and NAF spelled it out for me. Once I looked at what was happening with that assumption in mind, it became fairly clear (or as clear as it can get in Mafia).

Yes :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, not entirely at first.
I was onboard HazelNutCoffee’s lynch the uncontroversial players (“clean nosers” as I like to call them) That included you, chrisk, Hawkeyeop, and OneCentStamp.

Your Night slip just focused the attention onto you.

Then Blaster Master’s vote for NAF instead of you made us more sure, and pretty much confirmed it. Blaster Master voting for NAF was pretty clearly in violation of his own “much lynch Boss” principles. While a case could have been made that NAF was recruited; he clearly was not the Boss. The only plausible explanation for Blaster Master’s actions was that you were the Boss.
Add to that that we had expected Blaster Master to be recruited, and a shift in Blaster Master’s gameplay and voila.

It’s a team game, and you are only as good as your team.

You could say my team is only as good as me.

Dude, I can totally post here now.

Off to read the thread.

Oh yeah, like we’re going to believe that you haven’t been reading this thread the whole freakin’ time.

When I was re-reading the Day that lead to your lynch, I was somewhat baffled because BlasterM didn’t really have to do anything. People were just like, “Eh, he seems scummy enough.” Again, it reminded me of when I got Dio lynched in the YSI game - I did not mean to get him lynched at all, but somehow it ended up being a bandwagon. Town is so unpredictable sometimes.

I’m wondering what BlaM thinks?

I was thinking the exact same thing. Near the end BlaM posted something about looking back at the case he made against Darth after he was lynched, and I looked back and . . . there was no case. Every time BlaM mentioned Darth he did it in the same breath with Millit.

Hal deserves a lot of credit for catching that slip. If it hadn’t been for that I probably would have resumed my crusade against OneCent. Too bad for Darth that I’d made the EXACT SAME MISTAKE the first time I played as scum, hah.

To be honest, though, Darth, when I was reading over your Day 1 posts I had my doubts as to whether you were the Boss or not. One comment in particular - where you suggested the Detective use their “how many scum” ability after a few Days - threw me for a loop. It didn’t seem like something scum would say at all. It was concentrating on the last two Days that convinced me you were the Boss. Especially that post I quoted in my final case against you, where BlaM gives you an array of options to answer to while trying to look like he’s interrogating you. It just seemed way too gentle to me.

sachertorte, thanks for the help. :stuck_out_tongue: I knew there was a reason I kept wanting to post about giraffes!!

I was scum in my last two games, which really gave me some perspective on gameplay in general. Although even to the end, I wasn’t 100% sure about Darth. If he turned out to be town I was fully prepared to be lynched the next Day - although I was readying the defense that I was a Mason and therefore could not be the Boss.

Seriously, dude, I think I must’ve accidentally read it in my sleep. Either that or I have an alternative personality that likes chocolate cake.

I think I posted this in the game, but it was a mostly honest assessment of the NAF lynching. One of the things I like to do to get reads on people is drill the hell out of them. This is why I really stuck it to hotflungwok, and I didn’t get the read on him as the Vig until after I was reasonably convinced he was town. When I turned my attention to NAF, I had to drill him harder because he has more experience, but I was actually reasonably convinced he was town, and would have voted elsewhere, but I didn’t agree with the other options, and so I was ready to let it go…and then I was recruited.

Entering the next Day, I figured I’d established something I could use to chew up a lot of the Day and ultimately get him lynched. What I was trying to do was play the confirmation bias “absolutely sure” that he’s scum, so I sort of put up a filter when reading his posts that I KNEW he was scum, and was trying to find every little thing I could to make him look bad. I thought if I’d poked it and kind of let it sizzle, FOA, it’d be a lot easier to blame me for starting the wagon. I fully expected I’d blow my credibility and possibly get lynched the next day, and I figured that keeping any real analysis of Darth Sensitive drowned out would be nice, plus, I could actually use my blown credibility to my advantage in the future… maybe.
