I was quite pleased to read Believer; I thought them the largest group and therefore that it was reasonably certain.
I had planned to roleclaim on Day 7 - I’d ID’d Malacandra the previous Night, and was expecting a lynchmob bearing a rope with his name on it.
But the ticket machine of the bus I caught broke down, and the driver had to detour to the depot to get another one and return to the bus station. So when I actually got to open the Dope, the last post in the thread was by Malacandra.
Guess which one. Go on. Guess.
Just as a sidepoint, although it wasn’t deliberate, merely an outgrowth of my personality and style, one of the things that kept me safe from nightkills was the continual low level suspicion I was under. But I expected on Day 7 that I’d have to claim the following Day.
Oh, and if anyone’s still got the story or other interesting links I’d like to read them, since I’ve got full-on insomnia tonight. And a job interview tomorrow, which is probably the cause of the insomnia.
Well, I just plain don’t get that kill. mhaye could have been a town target, because he could have been recruited, taking heat off the rest of the Cultists. Cookies is confirmed and unrecruitable, so killing him first would have made more sense, especially since mhaye would have been literally useless once the Cult was down to just the Prophet.
Well, the scum had their reasons. We’ll see if they are right or not.
Anyway, now that MHaye is out of the game, I can respond to my drunk posts at the beginning of the day of the monk gambit. I didn’t want to talk about it before because I didn’t want to confirm that MHaye was not recruited.
The night before, the plan was to counter-claim monk. We were willing to accept a 2 for 1 deal at that point. Idle and I were the logical choices for it. However, as the night wore on, Idle was resistant to the idea. Perhaps he was right. The night finally ended with Idle saying he did not support this move.
My plan at the beginning of the day, once MHaye got a no-result, was to counter-claim apprentice, which explains my “I don’t believe MHaye” posts. However, here’s where we fucked things up. I never really got a chance to explain my plan on the scum boards (altho I kind of mentinoed it when we were intially tossing ideas around), because we were arguing about the monk gambit up until the deadline.
THEN Idle decided during the day to go ahead with the monk claim idea. I was stuck with all these posts casting doubt on Mhaye and having to explain them. MHaye’s non-results and getting diggit killed looked pretty convenient for us at that time, and I wonder what would have happened had I gone forward with the apprentice counter-claim.
I was actually drunk, but I played it up with more intentional typos and such as a way to explain myself if things went south. So it was probably 75% actual drunkenness, 25% going over the top a bit.
Idle, I did in fact catch that post on your boards. I told BlaM. By that time I’d already voted NAF and felt it best to leave my vote. My Night 12 investigation was based on previously existing suspicions.
I will admit to suspicions that HM was trying for a nonbeliever win since Night 9; the chance of two consecutive no-reads was very small unless the Alchemist was meddling.
It would have been interesting to fight the counterclaim, zuma; maybe some other time.
Snipped. Yeah…what changed my mind was finding out Sach was a Monk, actually. Since he wasn’t around at the time and it was basically Cookies word against zuma and I’s, I figured there wasn’t much to lose and to, in the end, do what my team wanted.
I didn’t know of zuma’s back up plan. Hahaha.
I still do maintain that if we hadn’t claimed, we both might still be in it and things would have turned out different. I guess I just wish I had stuck to my guns in not liking it and not going to do it. : /
That’s the main reason why it was you killed off toNight, actually. Because of all the people I thought who was most likely to have seen it, I figured you to be the top one (and said so on the scum boards), since you’re the only one that was in both this game and that one and might want to read the scum boards over there in-depth. So the Cult took you out just to be safe.
Hockey Monkey, I’m not sure why you were angling for a non-believer win. I mean, is a non-believer win really more valuable than a town win?
I suppose that, if the town win was likely, then going for the more exclusive win might be reasonable (as the masons tried to do in M3). However, in this game the town looked to be a long way behind, yet you were trying to get a townie lynched??
I suppose it’s just our different play styles - I would secure the win first, anything after that is icing.
I’m unsure how I would have handled it, because I hadn’t come up with any ideas, especially if more people had seen it. Fortunately, the cult had good reasons to kill MHaye besides that, and it seemed more like a “sugar on top” reason than anything else.
After the game is over and BlaM posts the night PM’s, I think it will be a little clearer. Let’s just say I never expected the town to win, but when the game turned a little and a Non-believer win looked possible, I was going to try for that. And yes, that would have meant getting rid of a townie. If the win conditions had called for only non-believers to be standing at the end of the game, I wouldn’t have even tried…since we never knew how many of us there were to begin with and couldn’t coordinate.
