'Forgotten' songs from the 60's (i.e. 1964 to 1974ish)

Road to Cairo by Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger, and Trinity (1968). Hopefully never forgotten.

That said, ‘Naturally Stoned’ by The Avant-Garde hit the Top 40 at the right time.

Holy crap! Are you guys trying to over-excite me?

(See my previous post about attending the “Happy Together” tour a couple weeks ago.) Three of The Cowsills were there as the opening act and they did indeed perform “I Love the Flower Girl.”

TL;DR version: Two weeks ago, I heard The Archies perform “Sugar, Sugar,” AND The Cowsills perform “I Love the Flower Girl.”

Gotta get me a lottery ticket!

Is that Kate Middleton at 1:32?

That song was featured in Dumb and Dumber, apparently.

That was “Timothy” by the Buoys in 1971. A one hit wonder band.

Here’s Clarence Carter’s song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvfsfS6NVUc

I remember this one for being somewhat controversial; it got a lot of mainstream radio play and parent-aged people were scowling. Beverly Bremers, “We’re Free”.

Why would I be thinking of a different song sung by a different person?

A killer riff, nonsense lyrics, yodeling, and gratuitous falsetto. What’s not to like?

I am speechless. I am without speech…
ETA: the full album is available on Amazon. You’re welcome.

There was a rash of children singing oh so sweetly on songs. Anyone remember Playground In My Mind. Well, not a rash of them. All the other ones I can think of don’t fall into this time period. Except for The Wall which is in no way forgotten.

Never knew there was a philly soul scene?

MFSB TSOP

CMC fnord!

I can contribute a shocker from the UK, right timeframe as well (1970). This was a number one hit too, and combines several different types of awful - to the extent that anyone actually making it far enough to hear the “children singing oh so sweetly” is doing pretty damn well.

Grandad by Clive Dunn.

Forgotten, but it can never be forgotten enough.

I knew “TSOP” of course, but not that it was part of a much bigger scene. I also figured it was Disco, not Soul, music. To my mind, they’re two different genres.

TSOP was a Barry White production. The Philly sound actually started with the Intruders and the Soul Survivors (Expressway to Your Heart), both Gamble and Huff projects. Also the Delfonics were foundational sweet soul, maybe the best ever. The Spinners, Ojays, Harold Melvin, Bunny Sigler, all went through the philly machine and had their biggest successes there. That’s soul music.
