Well, tomorrow (Saturday) is the big day. It’ll be Hillary’s last opportunity to exhibit honor, grace and selflessness in concession. As often as she’s proudly flown her roguish colors, I’m tempted to predict the worst, but I’ll refrain, and give her benefit over my doubt.
I do predict a riveting spectacle, if only for a few moments, for those of us whose emotions have become, perhaps, a little too enmeshed and invested in the outcome of this cycle’s primary season.
Obama will, no doubt, comport cordially and respectfully, as always. Clinton will pledge her support with conviction.
Does anybody know what time she’s expected to make her speech?
I still half expect her to be introduced as “the next President of the United States” again, and to see her launch into another ambiguous non-concession where she spends most of her time touting her own numbers.
I’ve been watching the CNN live feed for almost half an hour now. So far it’s been people milling around, elbowing each other, scratching their butts, and shouting Hillary! at random intervals. No Hillary though. I thought it was supposed to start at 12pm Eastern Time.
MSNBC keeps showing her car still parked in her driveway, and apparently it’s a 15 minute drive to the venue from her home. It’s my understanding that being considerably late is her M.O., so this comes as no surprise to me.
She will speak of Obama as the “presumptive nominee,” but she will not call him “the nominee.” She will not explicitly admit that he won or clearly declare that her campaign is over. I hope I’m wrong.
I wonder how much her debt played in Tuesday’s non-concession? She must have known that “we’ll fight on!” is a better fund-raising battle cry than “I guess I lost.”
