I don’t know why ABC gets to air any race. My local station was commercial free until lap 69. Then they cut away and came back to the race after the finish. Hope they fire the asshole who did that.
Great race! Love to see Russel get his first win. Also, I’m reminded why I dislike versatappen. Not just his tangle with ham, but he totally dissed perez by refusing team orders.
Verstappen was never going to make that corner. I sort of understood why he kept driving into Hamilton last year; forcing him off track was an efficient strategy when he could get away with it. I have no idea why he is still doing it now with no championship on the line, especially since he admitted he knew that move would result in contact.
Can’t put it better than Perez did: “It just shows who he really is.” - a colossal prick. Which we already knew, anyway.

It’s likely that at some point in his career, he’ll be racing in an uncompetitive car - given how he acts now, goodness knows what he’ll be like then (see also: Alonso, Vettel - in marked contrast to other former champions in that situation who have managed to act with good grace and integrity, such as Hamilton, Raikkonen, Button, and even Schumacher).

Stroll is a pretty competent driver, which is evident from the fact that he’s often able to move up substantially through the race after a poor qualifying. He has been hampered by his car - the same car which Sebastian Vettel, who is a FAR, FAR better driver than Stroll, has also had endless problems with. He’s made some dumb mistakes, but everyone else in F1 has made the same mistakes at some point. But yes, he’s a pay driver. He’s at least a better one than fellow Canadian pay driver Nicolas Latifi, who we won’t be seeing much more of after this season.
I wanted to hate Lance Stroll, but honestly, it’s his father who’s the hateful asshat. One cannot blame his son for driving if he has the opportunity, and honestly he’d not that bad.
Would Stroll be in an F1 seat if he wasn’t who he is? Maybe not… but he is legitimately a talented driver. He might’ve made it eventually anyway. He did perform well in lower circuits; he’s worked his way up.
