Formula 1 2024

I predict a season more boring than the most boring Schumacher season. Only because there are more races. But maybe we’ll get some Carlos and Hamilton drama. Generated, I’m sure.

I love Bernie, but she has the pearfuk voice fer Mime. All that talkin an doin an stratigizin an thinkin bout changin stuff wears me out!

Thanks to certain events, this was certainly a more entertaining race!

I wagered on Alonso to finish in the top 6. (Even odds). I was, let’s say, emotionally involved in those final laps to say the least.

During the race, Martin Brundle said it was possible that Verstappen might leave Red Bull next season because of “certain things.”

What was he talking about?

Drama. I don’t think anyone really knows what’s going on but with the recent Horner allegations and brewhaha it’s come out that Jos hates Christian and there seems to be some kind of weird power dynamic between RBR and the parent organization. Also, Adrian Newey might not be as loyal to RB as it seems.

All speculation at this point. Max loves racing so much that I’ve seen it suggested he may try to dominate other series vs sticking around to win X world championships.

Carlos to Ferrari: “Go ahead and Fire me! I’ll just kick some Ass! Hold my beer…”

He’s adding zeros to the amount of whoever gets him has to cough up, I think.

Did you manage to cash out your winnings before his penalty dropped him to 8th?

I bet though Bovada, and they didn’t do anything about the decision. I think it happened too late to effect anything.

Race week is starting in Suzuka. Williams will finally have two chassis (though still no extra in case of wrecks in practice), Alpine will be bringing more weights as an upgrade, and Red Bull is apparently bring a fairly significant upgrade package, rumored to be a version of the Mercedes zero-pod concept, just to flex on everybody.

Safe prediction says Verstappen takes it, with Perez fighting the Ferraris and McLarens to maybe get on the podium. Mercedes will continue as maybe best-of-the-rest until Alonso punts one of them. Haas will show up, Sauber will fuck up another wheel nut, and Totally-Not-Red-Bull-Junior will look okay, with Tsunoda making a decent showing and Ricciardo…well, I don’t know where to put Ricciardo. He hasn’t exactly stood out since his return, scoring points only once, the same as Liam Lawson in his five race stand-in, compared to Yuki’s five point-scoring drives.

But forecast calls for heavy rain, and rain screws up everything. So Piastri gets his first grand prix win before Norris, Russell shunts Alonso at 130R with a cackle, and Tsunoda podiums in front of his home crowd before losing his temper at a perceived slight and chucks his trophy at Ricciardo.

I’m drinking, too!

Results aside, that was a pretty damn good race to watch. Some real nice wheel-to-wheel racing. Suzuka is always great. Such a neat circuit. Sainz was brilliant to watch. Gonna be fun to see where he ends up next year.

I was expecting a Hamilton Melt-down, but maybe we just didn’t get to hear it.

For some reason, my DVR doesn’t catch the Sprint races. Further research is clearly needed…

Anyway, went and found highlights on YouTube. Wow! That looked fun! Maybe because it was ONLY the highlights?

The whole sprint race was only like 30 min long. But yeah, it was exciting during most of it. Sprint qualifying was even more exciting in the changing conditions.

Looking forward to the race. I always make an inappropriate amount of bacon to go with my eggs.

Interesting race! But what’s up with Nico Rossberg? His voice kept cracking like he’s going through puberty.

Nico was coughing during the grid walk, so he was probably a bit out of sorts during the race.

Speaking of grid walks, I forgot what a giant Yao Ming is.

Yao Ming next to Shaq makes Shaq look like Dwayne Johnson next to Shaq, which makes Dwayne Johnson look like Mark Wahlberg next to Dwayne Johnson. I doubt the English is correct, but the short form - they make other people look little.

Effective yesterday, Adrian Newey (designer extraordinaire) is no longer working with the Red Bull F1 team. Rumors abound (he’s going to Ferrari, he’s going to Aston Martin, he’s retiring, he holds a grudge against Horny), but he’s currently working on the RB17 hypercar until his time is up at the beginning of next year.

Jos Verstappen has stated before that Max will stay at Red Bull as long as things are stable.

Oh, and there’s a race in Miami this weekend. It’s my least favorite Western Hemisphere course, and there’s not even great spectacle (fake marina, really?). Won’t stop me from watching.

This is kinda how I’ve been feeling for years now.

I’ll take a boring/contrived F1 race over an “exciting” sportsball game any day.
