Here’s a video in which an ex-F1 aerodynamicist simulates the 2026 rules and compares their expected handling to the current regs.
TL/DW: aerodynamically, the rule changes should allow cars to follow more closely and make overtaking easier. However, this video doesn’t deal with the changes to the power units and the problems they will cause for the drivers, e.g., having to let off the throttle before turns to save battery power.
Norris is doing everything he needs to do to win the WDC. Piastri, while looking superhuman for a large chunk of the season, seems to need just a bit more seasoning.
I concur on Verstappen - I don’t like him, but that was a hell of a drive. There’s no denying his talent, that’s for sure.
ETA: Even down the grid, it was a tight race. A lot of close battles all through the field.
I don’t think you are wrong, but the 10 second penalty was a gift to Norris. Bad day for Leclerc, but at least he has his fiancée to console him. Speaking of bad days, Bortoleto had two in a row. No word on who might console him.
Great race though. Too bad we can’t dump Vegas and run this track again in two weeks.
I think Piastri is focusing on the series of bad things that have happened to him (and not happened to Norris). It’s distracting him from just going as fast as possible and winning races. Hard to blame him given his relative inexperience, but he might never have a better chance to win a title.
Dang, you people made it sound like Verstappen won. Gotta admit, it would be pretty incredible doing that starting from 19th!
As for the championship race, it’s looking like a case of one man who was dominant early and one man who’s dominant late, and the good money is usually on the latter. Norris used what looked to me a pretty weird tire strategy (why couldn’t anyone do anything with the hards?) and still won pretty easily. I’m at a loss to explain Piastri’s recent stumbles, but I’ve seen this story too many times.
And I’ll admit, it was a thrill seeing Stroll be the victim of stupidity for a change. (Just this once, promise.)
