Fortieth Reunion

As you might guess from the thread title, I’m a geezer. An old coot. Older than dirt.

But I digress…I recently received an invitation to my elementary school’s 40th reunion. This is bizarre on a number of levels (*elementary *school? for one…) – it’ll be the first get-together of this group since graduation in 1967.

I’ve already decided not to go, because:

a) I don’t like reunions in general. Anybody from dear old alma mater that I care about I’m already in touch with.

b) What do you say to someone you haven’t seen in 40 years, since you were 13?

“So…how was your life?”
“OK – high school, college, job, got married, had kids, got divorced, new job, remarried, another new job, heartache, joy, tragedy…retirement comin’ up.”
“Cool.”

“So…didja ever learn to read, or are you still a moron?”

“Still a big Paul Revere & the Raiders fan?”

Any thoughts? Anybody been to anything similar? How’d it go?

I won’t go to my 10 reunion. I went to the 5th and we had all moved on and had nothing to talk about. Almost all the people who came were local, and me and my closest friends had moved away.-

I started going to mine with the 25th, in 1988. My class was small, which is good, because at least you know who everyone is. The reunions have been fun, and it’s interesting to hear what people remember about those years. I like nostalgia, in small doses.

I spent a long time trying to forget my childhood - I did not have a good time at school. I’ve recently decided that I should let bygones be bygones and attend reunions.

I skipped my 40th elementary school reuion, and my 30th, and my 20th.

Back then I was fat and nerdy, and got beat up a lot.

Not that some reunions can’t be fun. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my high school reunions, but the beatings had pretty much stopped by then.
