Fox New fabricates anti-Kerry material...twice

Well, well, well. First Carl Cameron dreams up a bunch of completely nonexistent Kerry quotes intended to make the candidate look weak. Then Fox News tells us that Kerry is being backed by a group called “Communists for Kerry”. In that article they include a link to the Communists for Kerry website, which immediately makes it obvious to anyone who isn’t an idiot that the site and the organization is a joke. Thus far, FNC has promised to reprimand Cameron, though not yet said how. As far as I know, they’ve made no apology whatsoever for getting wooshed by the “Hellgate Republican Club”.

For almost a month the right hand side of the blogosphere had nothing better to do than complain about how a network’s news division didn’t do a sufficiently thorough investigation into one of its sources. Surely, surely all the people who made such complaints will soon explode with anger at FNC’s shockingly low journalistic standards.

You mean Fox has journalistic standards? I’m always the last to find out.

Seriously, thanks for posting this. I’ve been with friends last night and all day today, but I heard about the ‘metrosexual’ story last night, and the ‘Communists for Kerry’ story just now. Boy, what a joke of a ‘news’ operation. I just bought “OutFoxed”, and haven’t had time to watch it yet, but I’m starting to think I don’t really need to bother.

FTR, the “Communists for Kerry” organization may be imaginary but the Communist Party USA does officially endorse defeating Bush – http://www.cpusa.org/article/articleview/585/1/27/ – and the national chairman, Sam Webb, has called for a Kerry victory – http://www.cpusa.org/article/articleview/590/1/27/.

But, the guy from “Communists for Kerry” assured FOXNews.com that his organization was not a parody group! How can they be blamed for falling for such cunning subterfuge?

Just a quick question. How long did it take, and how much outside pressure was necessary before Fox took down and appologized for the made up quotes?

Also, I think they simply quoted a memeber of “communists for Kerry”, or someone who said he was a member. They linked to the site because it was there. BTW, the name of that guy “Komoselutes Rob” has to be an anagram for something. Anyone know what? Does that first name mean anything in Russian?

Not that BG said otherwise, but the fact that the CPUSA thinks Kerry is the lesser of two evils, and are realists about their own party’s chances this year, doesn’t mean that Kerry is a communist in any way, shape, or form.

Too too true. If anything, it speaks rather well of the Communist Party USA, which is being realistic for a change, unlike both the Green Party and Nader’s Raiders.

A large multiple of the time it took to determine the material was certainly fabricated. Why do you ask?

From the FNC article:

Bolding mine.

Fox was swift with its retraction, unlike ITR champion. Of course, he also ignores that Communists really are backing Kerry, but that’s another matter.

A large multiple of the time it took to determine the material was certainly fabricated. Why do you ask?

What was it, like 2 days or so? Let’s see how long it takes for ITR champion to fess up to his own error.

Which speaks well of both Kerry and the Communists. What is your point?

2 days? When they knew pretty much instantaneously it was false. That is a “large multiple” by my count.

Re ITR, what error are you talking about? I think s/he may have you on a technicality, viz.

Ya, sure it speaks well for Kerry. What next, a ringing endorsement from Nazis? The whole-hearted support of NAMBLA?

FNC admits to the whoosh, but the broader point remains: Communists really have announced support for Kerry. (As has already been shown.)

They’re for Bush.

Watch out, or ITR champion will start a thread about your posting a website as a news source, though it ‘immediately makes it obvious to anyone who isn’t an idiot that the site and the organization is a joke’.

Ok.

Still ITR isn’t a media organisation, so I don’t expect corrections like I do from CBS and Fox. So the overall ITR point is valid. IMHO, as always.

As a public service announcement, before I go scoop the garbage out of my brain, the American Nazi Party on their Website specifically endorses violent revolution, not voting, in a filthy and long rant on theri website. Somewhere in it, though, they mention that you might want to vote if, for example, doing so will lower your taxes.

So there you have it: the American Nazi Party endorses the low-tax candidate.

Now I’m going to go scrub my brain.
