They have no credibility left. Sure, even the hillbillies know it’s not true but I’d bet they’re masturbating in their feces just thinking ‘what if’. And yes, Fox is just that evil. Given some of the shit they have pulled this doesn’t seem that unrealistic.
Yeah, pretty much this. I sincerely doubt that someone at Fox News deliberately put up a bunch of trollish “har, Obama is dead” messages. But the failure to take them down for half a day or more seems really strange. That is the part I would like to hear an explanation for.
I do wonder how many of the people who’d subscribe to that feed jumped up in celebration when they saw the tweet.
And why wouldn’t we? Do you believe that tweeting fiction about the president being assassinated would get them more viewers and be good for business? The messages were bad fakes fakes (“Bled out?” “Best regards to Obama family?”) and they were about something that was easy to disprove (Obama wasn’t in Iowa). Anybody who thought for a second that the tweets were genuine would immediate take a look at another web site and would realize they were fake. Democrats wouldn’t be more annoyed about this than Republicans and Fox News apparently reported this to the secret service, which would be a very stupid thing to do if they were faking it. So what’s in it for them?
I dunno, what was in it for Fox with all those instances in which they “accidentally” misidentified Republicans who had fucked up horribly (been caught in airport rest rooms doing gay tap dancing, said terribly inappropriate things on camera, etc.) as Democrats on the video caption or on crawl line feeds? It was EASY to determine the individuals were in fact Republicans. Fox did this SEVERAL times, and got their collective noses rubbed in it. What was in it for them then? All I could ever see was stupid lolz as a benefit … pretty much the same as this Twitter “error.”
If we assume that’s done deliberately, the answer is that some voters would have thought the bad guys were Democrats. That’s actually consistent with the FN agenda. Whereas nobody thinks Obama is dead.
They’re still there. I don’t believe they created these fake tweets, but their lack of urgency in getting these corrected or at least clearing their name is seems woefully neglectful. Their main Twitter site and the Fox News homepage make no mention of it.
Did anyone else catch themselves thinking that this was a horrible missed opportunity?
Gone now. And there is a link to the story on their frontpage (Granted its on the bottom).
I imagine the delay in fixing the situation was negligence rather then malice (either on Foxs part or Twitters). I can’t imagine even Fox News would think its a good idea to have their twitter feed making false assassination reports.
How so? By posting embarrassing shit about Fox News itself, like links to unflattering articles about Roger Ailes, instead of fake assassination reports?
