Framed: a daily game like Wordle, but with stills from movies instead of words

(I didn’t know whether this should go in The Game Room or Cafe Society, but I chose here since it’s film-related.)

Have you heard of framed.wtf?
It’s similar to Wordle, but you view stills from movies and guess their titles instead of guessing a word.

It’s fun! I find it easier than I would have thought to guess the films based on the stills, even when I haven’t seen the film in question – so if you see / know a lot of films, this may be a piece of cake.

I didn’t do that well today, #40:

I did not recognize this movie at all! But it’s easy enough to guess at frames 5 and especially 6.

Anyway I thought some of you might enjoy this too

Framed is worth a thousand Wordles.

I’ve been playing it every day for a couple weeks. It’s an interesting challenge, but it’s also getting frustrating because nearly every movie reflects super-basic film-bro-y taste. Two Edgar Wrights? Hardly any movies from before the mid 2000s? No movies with majority-women casts? Come on, what is this, The Ringer?

A very good point. Now that you mention it, that bothers me too – I’d love to see more diversity of films!

Animal House
Blues Brothers
Scream
Pineapple Express

Well I was right on target for the genre, at least for my first two guesses. (I was thrown by the high school, which I’d forgotten in the actual movie. But I do remember it now, and it cracks me up thinking about it: 30-something slacker Seth Rogen breaks up with high school girlfriend Amber Heard because wtf is wrong with her that she would be with such a loser like him? That phone breakup scene is classic.)

As a game I don’t like that your guesses have no real bearing on the game. A missed wordle guess gives you more information related to that guess. A missed framed guess doesn’t do anything for you. Only the pictures do.

I’ve also been playing for a few weeks and it’s fun. I also hope they will expand the list of films.

I got today’s on the fourth guess. My guesses were:

1) Vertigo
2) Dead Poet’s Society
3) Cape Fear
4) Blackkklansman

In my defense, the first three I haven’t seen in over a decade, and the winning film I’ve never seen. I’m slightly impressed with myself.

I knew what movie it was on the 4th frame but I couldn’t remember the title. That’s going to give me problems. If I can identify the actor in a frame I might have a better chance.

I got it in 4. I usually identify the movie within 3 and then get the title right with 4 but I haven’t seen Blackkklansman though I recognized the actor in 4.

Rum Punch was the movie a few days ago and a friend of mine got it in 1. He said that he just watched it again a few weeks ago. I got it after identifying Pam Grier.

I know just about every 5 letter word, maybe everyone that would be in the Wordle dictionary. I haven’t seen every movie nor would I recognize many scenes from a single still either. This is way harder than Wordle for me.

Got it in 5. I recognized Adam Driver in still 4.

I’ve been playing this every day. I got the Hereditary one on the very first image:

This was the image, which plays a big part in the movie.
