Maybe I did miss it, but one freakout that I did notice coming from a worker, from another department, was the one about the Right being convinced by memes and right-wing sources that crime in California cities is rampant because the laws against petty crimes were relaxed,

As I posted over in the thread about “progressive” policies being the downfall of major cities, maybe if you look at “small crimes” you’ll see a higher rate in places like San Francisco, but if you look at minor stuff like murder, you might see something else. And yes, I hear this crap all the time. “Seattle and Portland aren’t safe to visit any longer”. Whatever, ya snowflake.

Fort Worth, TX has to be the closest thing to a red big city. It’s growing as people flee places like San Francisco. They are focused on crime and homelessness. Guess what their murder rate is compared to San Fran?

While there’s no doubt San Francisco is facing a crisis of unhoused people and seeing an exodus of businesses and residents, the increase in crime has mostly been nonviolent. Measures put the California city’s homicide rate at about 6.9 per 100,000 people, far below Fort Worth’s rate of about 11.

Guess the crime they are focusing on isn’t murder since that would probably be about guns (Yellowstone). Better to focus on petty crime.

How Headlines Lie:

First - “Biden admin” is the CDC
Second - The admin isn’t limiting anything because…
Third - it is a suggested amount,

So… the headline should read:

“CDC considers changing recommendations for alcohol consumption. May suggest people limit selves to 2 drinks a week.”

And we just went through exactly the same thing, not that long ago, with meat. Remember when the right was flipping out because they’re going to be forced to drink vegetarian beer.
