After having two remote learning days at home because of the big winter storm, I was well rested so, as often happens, I woke up before the alarm was set to go off. While lying in bed and enjoying my last half hour, my phone suddenly started to vibrate.
It must be my district calling to tell me that they decided to finish the week remote! I mean, who else could it be at 5:00 am?! Wrong. The display read, “Amazon Delivery (Seattle, WA)”. Yeah, right! It was obviously scammers calling to tell me that there is a “problem” with my order/delivery and that they needed information to fix it. I put the phone down and flopped back in bed. Bastards! Really, do they think I’m that stupid?!
Again: BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!
I check my security app, and there’s a guy standing there with a box that looks exactly like the coffee I ordered yesterday morning!
I jump out of bed, throw on a robe, and scurry to the door. He hands me the box, turns, and walks away. My coffee has arrived.
Our delivery folks usually just leave stuff on the porch then ring and run. I’ve never received a phone call.
The company that sends me my CPAP supplies has the uncanny ability to send me a “Your supplies are on the way!” email within minutes of them showing up on my front porch.
My delivery folks don’t even bother to ring the bell. If I didn’t check my security camera or receive an email notification, I’d never know something was out there.
Probably many of their many newly hired independent workers getting an early start on their day. I’m surprised they rang the doorbell, though. Mine never do anything but drop off the package.
Amazon has started doing overnight deliveries; I’ve had several orders from them recently which, when I order them, show a delivery window of “2 a.m. to 6 a.m.” But, Amazon drivers rarely ring my doorbell or knock anymore; OTOH, when a delivery shows up, Alexa does make a noise to let me know that she has a notification about it.
Thanks for the info. Hey, I’m fine with nighttime deliveries, but I don’t want to be wakened by the doorbell. I’m one of those people who, once awoken like that, often has a problem getting back to sleep.
I’m thinking that there is somewhere in my account where I can specify that as a delivery parameter. I’ll have to go into it and check.
Our delivery people never ring the doorbell, which I guess doesn’t really matter because they almost always make their deliveries midday. However there have been the odd times when they deliver at something ridiculous like 6am, and then I’m really glad they don’t ring. We have a front door that is visually hidden from the street so I’m not too worried about porch pirates. All the neighbors are much easier pickings.
I dont think I can specify a delivery time. Date, yes, at least for Amazon. But not a time.
And, @Jasmine I didn’t realize you were a teacher. I know there are a few of us on the boards but didn’t realize (or didn’t remember) you were part of the club. This is a very good thing.
I have a permanent note in my “special instructions” to ring the bell as we have a common entry area. They often do and sometimes they even wait until I answer, which pleases me no end. Others in our condo assn have experienced porch piracy, but (knock on wood) so far we have not.
Well, I cannot accept the praise because I got out after ten years and have been doing tech support in a school district for over 8 years. I still serve the needs of teachers and students, but in a way that is much better suited to my personality. Thanks, though. There is no more noble profession than teaching.
Amazon drops off a package, and then we get a text alert that a package has been dropped off. The text includes a picture of the package sitting on the porch. And as we’re contemplating this, we hear the delivery truck drive off.
Yeah, the very first time we tried Amazon the package arrived in a matter of hours. As it was a set of markers from Japan, we were blown away, and posited that Amazon knew that someone this week would be ordering X number of 0.03 mm Fineliner Marker Sets in our area, and already had them in a warehouse in town.
