Spirit of the North is currently free on Fanatical. Newsletter signup required if you’re not already. They say free for next 4 days but they also have limited quantities so no guarantees.
It’s a very nice game. I played it on Xbox Game Pass years ago and it was enjoyable. It has some good platforming and puzzles in it (though the controls certainly took some getting used to), enough that I never got bored and felt compelled to play through to the end with barely a pause.
All that I’ll say though is that at the time, my (then much-younger) daughter watched along as I played because she thought it looked beautiful and was very upset by a particular event in the storyline (not going into specifics to avoid spoilers), enough that she couldn’t watch me play it anymore. But there is an actual story to it, despite having no dialog, which helps it feel rewarding to complete it.
Co-op shooter No Strangers (sorry, NO STRANGERS) is free to play for its first week to celebrate its 1.0 release. Notification was posted on the 8th so I’m guessing available for free until this Friday.
Also we have Task Pals, some little thing to add an animal friend to your desktop. Which sounds like it’s 2003 but it has Very Positive reviews so I guess a kitten chasing your cursor never goes out of style. It’s currently “Free” but there’s $13 worth of animal pal DLC. In a few days, it’s switching to a paid model but all the DLC will be included. Anyone who has the Free model will be upgraded to the all-in paid program.
Swap Fire, a previous Wii U exclusive, was ported to Steam and is free until December 12th.

I bought this (cheap, I think around $2 because it was on sale) for the Xbox last year and have really enjoyed the nostalgia. If anyone is a fan of the old Castlevania games, it’s fun to be able to play them again. The collection has a pretty neat interface too.
Today on GOG:
To celebrate it’s 20th anniversary, gaming classic Half Life 2 is free until the 18th.
Today on Epic:
This is a great little game. I picked it up for free several years back and enjoyed it so much I’ve gone on to purchase the other games in the series.
Get your holiday shopping done early by giving everyone Dark Sector, available for free until noon CST on Nov 30th
Breathedge is free from Fanatical for the next three days or while supplies last. Usual Fanatical terms & conditions apply so don’t @ me when you have to sign up to the newsletter
Nice. Breathedge has been in my wishlist for a while. Even on steep discount I’ve been hesitant to pull the trigger, but free? Sold!
Today on Epic:
I have many hours in Brotato. I’ve grown to prefer it over Vampire Survivors, though they aren’t exactly the same thing.
It looks like Binding of Isaac. (I have not played Brotato).
The item system has more similarities to Binding of Isaac than to Vampire Survivors, but the gameplay is much more like the latter.
It’s definitely fun if you’re into VS-likes.
