Today on Epic:
Action-Platformer Pankapu is free until the 18th at noon CST. I know nothing about it except that it’s rated Mostly Positive and costs Completely Free. The rest you’ll have to discover on your own.
Some new games on Prime Gaming recently if you have an Amazon Prime account. Highlights include Dredge, Jurassic World: Evolution, The Outer Worlds, Mafia and Elite: Dangerous
Those are some really nice games to get for free.
Yeah, I know not everyone has Prime so it’s not the same as posting free games via Epic, Steam, etc. But there’s some nice stuff that gets given away and Amazon doesn’t make any attempt to inform you so I figure a heads up now and then is still useful and in spirit of the thread.
(Also, lest anyone point it out, of course the games aren’t “free” in that they’re ultimately being paid for with people’s subscription dollars. So consider it “taking full advantage of what you’re paying for” if ya want)
While maybe not “free” if Amazon drops a free game like Outer Wilds Worlds once a month I think it is well worth the price (counting the other benefits). Personally, I have Amazon for free shipping. The rest is a bonus and feels “free” to me.
I think these notices fit well in this thread since, as you noted, Amazon doesn’t tell us about them.
Just my $0.02
ETA: I goofed…I keep conflating Wilds with Worlds. Not the same.
I for one heartily endorse The Outer Worlds (not Wilds). I already have a copy and the DLC through steam, and while it was a bit shorter and less open than expected, and sadly some of the storylines drifted off it was otherwise a very polished game that felt like the storytelling you’d expect from Obsidian. Since the DLC just tell some extra stories in the world, you don’t loose out really on anything by not having them, although if you love the world, you’ll want them.
Basically, if you loved The Big MT in Fallout NV - you’ll like OW.
Ack!
My bad.
I thought they were giving away one of the Outers (Worlds or Wilds) on Epic for free a while back, but I don’t see either on my Epic or Steam libraries.
What’s the difference with those?
(I do consider taking the 30 day trial around this time to get a their huge chunk of free games around now, maybe I will this year)
Also Dredge is very good. Shortish, but I was quite addicted for a while.
They gave away outer worlds on epic. That’s an obsidian RPG. Outer Wilds is a different game that’s very unique and some people think it’s one of the best games ever made although reaction is quite varied.
Also I think mentioning the amazon prime games is fair game on this thread. It’s not free, but a significant portion of readers will have prime anyway and it’s a good reminder. I recently went through my prime games after not looking for a long time and redeemed like 30 games.
I was pretty sure this had happened in recent times. Did I miss this or was it one of those "next week"s which never happened which occur occasionally?
Outer Worlds is kinda like Fallout (kinda). Definitely worthwhile (especially when free).
Outer Wilds is its own thing and pretty great. Definitely worthwhile (I think).
Just to add: Outer Worlds is also currently free on some levels of PlayStation Plus.
It’s a very enjoyable game, and I got much, much farther in it on the console than PC simply for the comfort factor.
It has two good DLC’s, but one is particularly good. You are a murder investigator and they give you new tools to be able to investigate the murder. This is a Fallout-like game the rest of the time and all the sudden you are a detective.
It was pretty fun.
Today on Epic:
GOG is holding their Winter Sale, with free games every day(?). Currently, The Whispered World is on giveaway:
Just to add that I thought I had missed this giveaway, but it’s on for more than one day. Just redeemed (12-13 at 6:00 AM CST) and still 2+ days left.
Also, with the Amazon Prime game giveaways, the majority seem to be redeemable on GOG, which is my preferred game store site.
Edit: this is regarding the Whispered World giveaway

I have heard about this one. Is it good? I don’t know that I get what it is, though.
