Free PC game and free weekend notification thread

It’s pretty great:

YMMV

It was very cheap to begin with and it is hard to argue with free. I’d say give it a shot.

I bought it on Steam back when that thread was young, because of that thread. It was awesome.

Later it came out on the iOS and I like it even more. It’s a perfect game for a mobile device. Game sessions are short (you’re lucky to last the whole half hour), graphics are simple enough that they work fine on a small screen, and the controls are extremely simple and ideal for a touch screen (you are literally just walking around and everything else is automatic until you have to make decisions or go into menus for things).

There are a crap ton of copycat games out now, but I still think Vampire Survivors is the best of them.

It is excellent, I paid for it and all the dlc pretty much as it came out.

A sort of robotron with automatically weapons and a lot more enemies and a time limit. That’s a starting description.

It is best described as a genre-defining classic.

Let’s make this clear, THIS IS ONLY FOR ONE DAY.

It appears the daily christmas free game deluge is on us. But this game should not be missed.

It is excellent if you enjoy it. Which is to say that it’s definitely not for everybody, but people who like it tend to really like it. At this point I probably own ten games in the genre that Vampire Survivors spawned.

I recommend just buying it on steam, but only the base game. Get the dlc one at a time to keep things fresh. There’s nothing to be gained from getting it all at once.

I can also recommend Vampire Survivors, though I’m not particularly good at it. Pretty sure I bought all the DLC since they were only like $3 or something. Last I checked I think I had around 50 hours in the game.

Mostly I play it while I’m in between games because it’s a simple, self-contained and fun 30 minutes per run.

I know this is the “free game” thread but I think it is worth noting that the games Dishonored 1 & 2 are both on sale on Steam for $2.99 (normally $10/30 I think). It is part of Steam’s winter sale but that discount is a big one. Those are excellent games (assuming you like the genre). For $3 each it is hard to go wrong.

Today on Epic:

Astrea: Six Sided Oracles

Thank you for letting me know Epic is giving away every day for Christmas, I’m so used to one per week.

Here is another freebie Scourgebringer on Fanatical (Steam key.)

Thanks for this, I grabbed it.

Limited number, though. Apparently they’re sold out.

Free (today only) on Epic is TerraTech.

Thanks; looks cute. Positive reviews on Steam.

Today’s Epic freebie is Wizard of Legend.

Today epic isn’t really a free game, it’s an upgrade to a free-to-play game. Not interested, myself.

Dark and Darker - Legendary status

Fun little game. I got to the end of the Steam version quite a while ago; have yet to go back to see what’s been added since then.

It’s more or less a free game. The game’s model is basically that the free version is a limited demo and then the “legendary status” upgrade is the full game. It’s a little convoluted but it’s pretty much the equivalent of giving away the full game. You do have to find the game in the epic store (dark and darker) and “get” that to add it to your library before you get the add-on.

I went for it in the end, but I realise after I’d got it and was free, it was a soulslike…

Off Topic I know, but the abundance of these soulslikes have overwhelmed and kind of ruined a bit of PC gaming for me, I spent a couple of hours trying and failing to play Darks Souls (original? 2? Can’t remember) and decided it wasn’t for me in any way. But there are just so many of them now.

Rumour is it’s Dredge for free today, Christmas Eve.

@Smid is correct, Dredge is the free game today.

Control is the free Epic game today, but it must be a repeat as it’s already in my library.
