Free PC game and free weekend notification thread

The free weekend is to entice people to purchase the game, which is also on sale.

Though it’s only for a limited time, the Free Weekend also coincides with historic V Rising sales. From May 14th through May 21st, V Rising will also be on sale for 55% off, and all DLCs will also be available at 20% off. In addition to all of that, the V Rising Complete Edition Bundle is also an additional 20% off, allowing the most clever of Vampires to layer promotion upon promotion and maximize their savings.

Epic’s freebies for this week:

Sunderfolk - Standard Edition

The Telltale Batman Shadows Edition

Those look really good. I grabbed Sunderfolk, it looks fun. I have the Telltale Batman game already on Xbox, and it’s a really good story.

Sunderfolk is fantastic, really great couch coop especially to play with non-gamers.

I absolutely loved the recent Botany Manor, given away in february. (It’s a cozy puzzle solving game, so might not be your thing). If you go say a year back I see more great games on this list, though some are quite old.

Glad you mentioned that, as missed the “or” after they mentioned online multiplayer, which I’m not into.

Just wanted to say a “thank you” to all who post the direct links so I personally don’t have to put up with the scrolling and look throughs mentioned above. :folded_hands:

Free on Steam until the 19th is “Terrors to Unveil - Day Off”. Personally, a day is the opposite of terror to me but I’m not an indie game dev. Curiously, this game is second in a series versus teasing you with the first but so it goes. It’s a spooky walkin’ around and talkin’ game.

This game is primarily a first-person narrative walking simulator with exploration, and conversation mechanics

I think they mean “day” as in “calendar day” rather than “time when the sun is out”. Here is one of the screenshots featured on Steam:

The trailer shows some spooky bits, and not just the uncanny valley bald clone fast food employees. I might grab it.

What little they show reminds me of a game I played once, called Gone Home. It too is a walking simulator, where you are exploring a house. I liked it quite a bit. And it was spooky, but…

MAJOR spoilers if you haven't played this game.

Nothing bad actually happens. There is some weirdness, but it all comes from being in an empty house during a storm. There is nothing supernatural, no enemies, no gore. It feels like a haunted house or a place with some dark secret, but the closest you get is reading the history of a creepy guy who lived there years before, and your sibling trying to conjure a ghost with a Ouija Board as recorded in journal entries. Trying to solve the “mystery” of what has been going on with your family since you’ve been away, and finding actual hidden doors and solving puzzles, that was a satisfying enough experience that I didn’t mind the total fake-out.

So if it’s anything like Gone Home, I might actually check this out. Thanks for linking this.

Heh, I meant to say that a day OFF was the opposite of terror to me but keyboard goblins ate the important word there.

I’m always on the lookout for couch coop games to play with my (very much a non gamer) wife; usually I only have success with Switch games, but the phone controller aspect seems promising. You think it’s worth a shot?

Yes, absolutely. My partner isn’t a gamer but does enjoy d&d and played games like FF Tactics back in the day and she really enjoys it.

Epic’s freebies for this week:

Down in Bermuda

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered

The Tomb Raider games are excellent. Those are very much worth getting.

As an aside: “Detroit: Become Human” is $7.99 on Epic right now (temporary sale). Its a fun game and that is a very good price for it.

The remasters? They did the reboots before, which were excellent too, and got me to appreicate Epic to buy games from them. I wasn’t sure if the remasters of the original games are any good.

Good point. I honestly do not know. Hopefully someone else can tell us.

I’ve only played the first entry from the remastered trilogy, on PC. Probably best to go with classic mode and classic/tank controls. I found the remastered textures ugly and the modern controls too difficult for some of the puzzles. You always have to wonder if remastered textures are AI-generated. Can’t argue with the price, though.

A couple free Steam games to keep you busy this weekend. One will prepare you for an exciting new career, the other is about fixing cars or something. Free 'til the 27th

I got excited about the Warhammer 40K game (because it’s less than 10 years old and looks good) then realized I already had it for some reason. Then I searched this thread, and:

So thanks for it back then too!
