Free PC game and free weekend notification thread

I also use Firefox. Looking at my extensions now, it’s called Augmented Steam.

I’m sure there’s a different one for chrome.

My only complaint is that it includes free giveaways in the historical low tallies, meaning if a game has ever been given away free, the historical low is zero. It would be better if they made the historical low exclude giveaways, since giveaways are typically one-time deals you can’t get again. For example, if you wanted to buy Subnautica and were wondering what discount to wait for, you get no data because it was free at Epic store once back in 2018.

Even worse, some games offer a free trial weekend – not even free to keep – and that also overwrites the historical low value with zero.

Other than the free giveaways/trials issue, it’s fantastic.

Thank you both, that is great info!

Also worth looking at Steamdb where you can filter games by price, rating, genre, include/exclude by tag, only show games on sale for their best historical discount and more. Great for when you have $10 burning a hole in your pocket but you’re looking for idea on what to buy.

Thanks. I had either this or something identical years and years ago, but it became obsolete at one point and I moved on. Glad to see it is back or someone else has re-created it.

This week’s Epic freebie is Grime.

Just a quick reminder that Amazon Prime has free weekly games. Had totally slipped my mind for the past few months.

The Whisperer, a 2creepy4u horror point-and-click game is currently free on GOG. Actually available via it’s product page and not through the main store page!

I don’t know what it is, but the bleakness of those screenshots creep me out more than any “dimly lit abandoned mental hospital” ever did, or whatever the usual horror trope must be. I can’t even say why.

It is clearly a small game, only 45 minutes of gameplay, and normally $1.24, but it looks like an interesting diversion.

Yes but…

As @Atamasama mentions, and I will will quote from the page -

The Whisperer is a standalone game, but it also serves as a prelude to The Whispering Valley (2022). It is around 45 minutes long.

So it’s another “free” game that works more like a teaser/demo for a full game. Not absolutely a bad thing, especially for free, but frustrating.

I don’t find it frustrating if it’s a self contained experience (which this seems to be). Lots of good short games out there – especially narrative ones. But people should read the description and make their own choices.

Sega Bass Fishing is free on Steam until… Sept 24th? Ok, then. Not a big run on fishing games from 2011, I guess.

It’s £5.99 here, might be region specific

I think they killed it early (original ending date was in error perhaps)

When I tried to add it to my account when it was Free, it gave me an error. Tried a few times throughout the day, no luck. I’ve wishlisted it in case it happens again.

segas arcade fishing games were cool back in the day as it actually a fishing pole to use as the controller and so did the Dreamcast version if I remember right

Murder by numbers is a fun little number-puzzle game. Kind of vapid storyline, but an interesting enough diversion if you have a few minutes to kill before bed or something. I used to do a puzzle or two at night on my Stadia (RIP).

Is ESO pay-once? Or subscription?

$15 a month, apparently. Boo.
