Free Shrimp! or...or...OK not much is better than Free Shrimp

I went to the grocery store tonight (Harris Teeter to be specific), and I lingered in the Asian cuisine section long enough to discover that I can get udon noodles to prepare at home. Woohoo! I love udon noodles. I got a beef and a shrimp flavor. At the end of the aisle was the fishmonger. Hmmm, thinks I, some fresh shrimp would be good in my udon bowl.

I only needed enough for one meal, so I asked the fishmonger for 4 or 5 of the 50 count size. He bagged up 5 of them for me and placed them on the scale, but the scale didn’t come on. He said, “Oh, I’m going to give these to you as a sample because the scale won’t read less than a quarter pound.” I don’t know the amount of truth in that statement, but I wasn’t complaining.

SCORE!

Any one else have “How to get free stuff” type stories?

Nice! I looooooooooove shrimp.

I think most of my freebie experiences revolve around alcohol. Being female helps.

Okay, not to sound like I’m proselytzing, but…www.grocerygame.com.

For $15 every 2 months, I get a weekly list for 2 grocery stores I frequent. On that list is EVERY item on sale, and how it pairs up with ANY recent coupons. Every week something is free–i.e., the deodorant that is on sale for 2/$4 (you only have to buy one)with a $1 off coupon (doubled). This seems to be deodorant season–we’ve gotten 5 free sticks in the last two weeks.

Other recent freebies: 30 packs of gum (those 10-pack packages with 5 sticks in each pack), 3 air fresheners, 2 packages of those drop-in toilet bowl cleaners, about 4 cans of dog food, 2 small bags of cat food, 3 packages of cat treats, 3 tubes of toothpaste, 2 boxes of Rice O Roni, 2 cans of coffee, 1 thingy of hummus, about 8 boxes of cereal, 2 boxes of cereal bars, 2 packages of ramen noodles, and 3 toothbrushes. That’s just off the top of my head.

Frequently my receipt will show I spent $12, and saved $40. This past weekend was a weak one–I spent $22 and saved $40 at one store, then spent $105 and saved $65 at another. But, $127 to feed a family of 3 for a week (not to mention stock up on diapers, wipes, and toddler hand soap and body wash) is still pretty good.

perks up I like this, but I am so bad a couponing. There is only me and I only shop once a month or less. I’ll check it out though. I was so excited about getting mine without having to work for it.

I found 5$ on the sidewalk yesterday. Ummm… I got some neat stuff here on the last White Elephant.

My MIL looks after my daughter for free while I’m at work. Of course, I pay for it in other ways …
