Freedom Force Appreciation Thread

Here is a link for the uninitiated.

Freedom Force is my latest video game obsession. I know it’s a bit older, but I just picked it up a few weeks ago. Yummy silver-age comic goodness abounds in the original single-player campaigns, and the game practically begs to be modified. The link is to the official page, and Irrational Games gives you all the tools that you need to create your own super heros and create your own campaigns, right down to the voices and cut scenes. Granted, you need various other tools like Photoshop, etc. to really tweak it. However, there is a pretty decent community of skinners/modders backing it up.

What this means is that you aren’t limited to playing with the characters that they give you. X-men, JLA, Avengers, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Legion of Doom, it’s wide open. I am just learning how to mod the game myself, and am excited about creating some Marvel mutant madness!

Lovers of Freedom!! Report for duty!!

It’s a great game isn’t it? My favourite build is “Mr Kicky” whose primary attack is a beam that knocks bad-guys high, high up into the air. I also made another hero whose primary attack was Molecular Excitation (ie, making objects go boom!). I tried to make a guy with only a single attack that caused widespread damage around him, but I kept getting penalised for levelling the city…

The problem with the hero plugins is that I feel that the heroes should be, well, more heroic. Unless someone makes a mod to juice up the baddies and remove the class cap, I hate having to run around with crippled superheroes. Sure, you could cheat to get the experience to hire them, but then it ruins the game balance.

Oh, there’s a Fantastic Four mod somewhere that’s in split into server chapters. Since they’re huge (15+MB), I haven’t d/l them though.

Are you talking about the prestige points? I understand what you mean. I want to jack up my mutants, but I understand why the cap is there. Keeps a more level game, like you said. I am less tempted to make Wolverine fly around and shoot lasers out of his eyes.

I saw that…it’s over here. I just have dialup at home, too. But it looks like this cat will send you a cd for just the cost of shipping!!

I bet I know the answer already, but I have to ask…does anyone here use the MAC version of Freedom Force? And, if so, does it have any editors?
Futile, but thorough. Those are my efforts for you.

Oh yes, played it through some time ago. Gotta say my favorite in-game superhero was The Ant. Couldn’t beat throwing some of those acid granades around, not to mention simply pushing the villains over the edge (that sure came in handy towards the end…)
