Finely minced parsley and garlic; then dip the garnished fries in Dijon mustard. Good with a glass of chianti.
As mentioned by a few other Dopers, I love dipping my HOMEMADE fries into HOMEMADE buttermilk ranch dressing. This is proof that God loves me and wants me to be happy.
I’ve never had vinegar on fries before. Would balsamic vinegar work? How about apple cider? Or is malt vinegar the only acceptable vinegar?
Salt and pepper, nothing else.
-fake cheez
-ranch dressing
-mayo/ketchup
I do the standard ketchup/salt deal but…I have a dark hidden secret. When I was a kid - well I still am a kid, so er…when I was more a kid - I would stick part of a fry down a straw and drink the soda through it. Yum!
I will dip my fries in just about any kind of sauce available. I am NOT kidding.

Even soy sauce? Teriaki? (I actually thought of trying those two with fries).
I’ve used teriyaki, but not soy sauce. I don’t often eat French fries at Chinese restaurants.

Like any other good Baltimore girl, I always coat my fries in Old Bay. Pure heaven. I’m okay with plain ketchup, but what really floats my boat is that onion ring sauce you can now get at Burger King - it tastes so good on fries! I don’t know what it’s called, but it is yummy. I always ask for extra and put it on my burger, too.
Just take a bunch of extra soy sauce packets from Chinese restaurants, and keep them on hand for when you do order fries. (or have them at home) There, problem solved!

Good god, I’m hungry now.
This is bringing back memories of being in the Netherlands two months ago and drenching my fries in mayonnaise. My own personal heaven has a Vlaamse Frites place on every corner.
Other than that, vinegar goes nice with the right type of fry (has to be the dark brown, “homestyle” fry), and poutine’s great as well.
Because of this thread, I broke my long-time boycott of fast food joints in Manhattan today, and got a Frosty and fries at Wendy’s. Darn you all!
My husband informed me that the mushroom gravy thing actually requires Swiss cheese, not Sharp Cheddar.
Never should have opened this thread. My doctor’s been on my ass about my weight again (which is appropriate, since that’s where most of it is ) and made a point of mentioning my borderline cholesterol count.
Now, of course, I not only have a taste for french fries (which I’ve been avoiding) but I want to try some of the toppings mentioned in this thread.
I know I’d like to try some toppings too…eheheh…and yes, I also have a fast food boycott and a chubby ass! EHeheh…
Sometimes I can’t resist fast food and go anyway…not too often though. EHeh
I like my fries plain
Marzettis Ranch Dressing
pepper
malt vinegar
Best topping for fries: lemon juice and McCormick’s Cajun spice mix.
I have to say that Ben’s Chili Bowl in DC makes the best damn cheese fries on the planet—they have kind of a nacho-type cheese sauce that they ladle over the fries.
HEHEHEE!! Yesterday, I had fries and tator tots and I put Teriyaki Sauce all over them!
So good!
mmmmmmm…poutine…
We can’t get decent curd cheese in this stupid province (who the hell wants ORANGE curd cheese?!?!?!?!?!?! AND the damn stuff doesn’t SQUEEK!), so we bring some back with us whenever we go home to Quebec. But we can get the St Hubert sauce here, so its just like home! I LOVE poutine.
Otherwise, lotsa salt or BBQ sauce.
…I’m hungry…
Well, we southern people keep vinegar on the table, so vinegar gets my vote…
