Frosty cold summer beverages

It’s stinkin’ hot.

I got a blender for Christmas (thanks, Mom!). It came with a recipe for a smoothie:

1 cup orange juice
1 cup crushed pineapple
1 cup ice
Blend.

Nice, cool, refreshing summer drink.

Anyone want to share other favorite cooling drinks?

Bananas Rhyder

  2 bananas, 1 apple, 2 pears, sliced & frozen
1/2 c plain low-fat yogurt

Once the fruit’s frozen, dump everything in the blender and puree that sucker. It’ss usually necessary to turn off the processor or blender every 30 seconds or so and mash down any lumps with a soft plastic spoon.

Great thing is that you can make up bunches of the frozen fruit ahead of time and just freeze it in ziploc baggies.

Aquire from TCBY Juicy Orange Sorbet
Blend with an equal amount of orange juice
Fat-free, smooth, delicious and VERY orange!

Banana-strawberry smoothie

2 bananas, frozen
4-5 frozen strawberries
1/2 cup to 1 cup orange juice

Blend until smooth.
Nice and cold-great for a summer breakfast drink.

There can be only one…

Ice cold Diet Coke.

Rick

Ice cubes and Baja Luna, blended together.

Baja Luna is a totally fabulous new concoction of tequila, cream and black raspberries.

Lovely.

  • G Love & Special Sauce “Cold Beverages”

Float a scoop of vanilla ice cream in:
2 oz. Melon Liqueur
5 oz. pineapple juice
5 oz. lemon-lime soda

Unfortunately, you don’t get to use your blender, but they’re a bitch to clean and it’s too damn hot anyway.

Other than a frosty mug of Dr. Pepper, try this.

2 cups of your favorite Ice Cream (I use vanilla)
1 1/2 cups of milk
1/4 cup chocolate Liquor
1 egg, raw
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 bannana

Blend the crap out of it. Drink.

Red Beer.

Empty a 5.5 oz. can of cold V-8 into a chilled pint glass. Top up with a 12 oz. can of cheapass American beer.

Better than it sounds, and, oddly, more refreshing on a hot muggy day that a plain cold beer. Plus you get vitamins.

Learned this from my brother-in-law, who hails from St. Louis, where they know from hot and muggy, and seem to drink a lot of this stuff.

I am sooo addicted to this beverage I make it all the time.

Section the watermelon and take out the pits, throw it in the blender.

Add Ice

Add 2 tablespoons of simple syrup (simple syrup: boil one cup of water and add 2-3 cups of sugar, cool, store in fridge so it’s ready when you need it!).

Blend till smooth, you might have to shake it a bit so it all gets liquified.

Now pour it over lots of ice.

Enjoy!

I promise you will not be disappointed by this very simple beverage. In fact, I think I’ll go and make some right now.
