Imagine you are the asshole in your neighborhood. ALL of your neighbors loathe you. They are explicit that they want to kill you or run you out of town. And they mean it. They work hard to do exactly that and have repeatedly made attempts to do that. Some major attempts.
But you can’t leave. For whatever reason you are stuck where you are.
How do you respond to your neighbors keeping in mind that even detente is off the table for them? It is their mission to kill you. Period.
The easy answer is don’t be an asshole in your neighborhood but that does not work. The neighbors hate you because you are you (e.g. a black person who moved into a white neighborhood). No amount of being nice will change their minds at all because you are not one of them. They see you as the source of all their problems.
No nukes for Iran. Plain and simple.

AIUI, it is something like this - the United States didn’t really want to get into a war with Iran, but once Israel started hitting Iran, Trump and his “advisors” decided it was better at that point to get involved than not. Iran was already pissed off but Israel had failed to fully take out Iran’s nuclear abilities, and a pissed-off-and-still-somewhat-capable Iran would be more dangerous than a pissed-off-but-no-longer-capable Iran.
By analogy, imagine that you’ve got a flamethrower, and you and your buddy are walking in the woods. You see a hornet’s nest. You tell your buddy to leave it alone, but he kicks it anyway. At that point, with the hornets starting to swarm out, you’re better off using your flamethrower to annihilate all the hornets before they can hurt you.
Imagine the roles were reversed.
If Israel – for its own religious-ideological reasons – committed itself to wiping Iran off the face of the earth… And if Israel simultaneously developed a nuclear program…
Who would be responsible for what happened next?

Israel is the country that is currently committing multiple atrocities in Gaza every single day. That sends in IDF soldiers disguised as civilians into hospital in the West Bank and carried out extra-judicial killings. That have disappeared thousands of Palestinians (that they have done for years) into torture dungeons. That have depopulated nearly 80% of Gaza and forced the population into “concentrated areas”, all while luring people into “death traps” looking for food and massacring between 20 and 50 people every single day for the last two weeks.
Its Israel that has seized land in Syria. It was Israel that lied about “gold and cash” being stored under hospitals in Lebanon and thats why they were legitimate targets. It’s Israel that an unprecedented terror pager attack on Lebanon (and yes: especially in the context of everything else it has done, it WAS terrorism), its Israel that obviously have agents working to destabilise the regime inside Iran for months, probably years, that helped locate, target and assassinate scientists and their families while many of them slept at night.
America and Israel are the biggest threats to world peace and stability right now. They both need to calm the fuck down. That isn’t going to happen of course. We are too far down the authoritarian ladder to be able to stop it now. This is history repeating itself. And many of you are backing the wrong side.
That’s actually where we are now. Actually for some time now. Iran has had enrichment plants and equipment for decades. If that was sufficient reason to bomb Iran we had it a decade or two ago.
And because they’ve had these things for a long time every year that goes by they are closer to actually making a working nuclear bomb.

The hubris is both breathtaking and infuriating to behold. How can anyone possibly be so confident that this time they’ll avoid all the terrible mistakes and unintended consequences of war for the past half century or so? I know the answer for Trump is that he doesn’t care and doesn’t think about long term consequences anyway, but what about everyone else supporting this? And with Trump and Netanyahu in charge? How fucking dumb do you have to be?
What to lose? If a Democrat wins the Presidency in 2028 all concerned can go back to their old position of ‘This is another Democrat war and we they shouldn’t have started it in the first place.’
We will pay a heavy price for this action. Seen as a success and sign of Trump’s toughness Trump’s big putrid bill will be passed by the passive GOP creating an American aristocracy. The secret police effort to kidnap and disappear immigrants will ramp up. The military will be used to occupy left leaning states and cities. The onslaught of unconstitutional executive orders will continue. The next step is rigging the mid-term elections so the Republican traitors can install Trump as king.
