If the US and Israel stop the bombing, does Trump get to now claim he stopped 9 wars?
Why am I being called out here? Have I said that waging war on Iran and engaging in indiscriminate bombing would be a terrific idea? No, I did not. This new war is in line with the fact that everything that Trump does is stupid, often disastrously so, and will just cause more suffering for ordinary Iranian people without accomplishing much else.
What I did say, correctly, is that Iran under its current crazy theocratic leadership is an existential threat to Israel. Khamenei’s “death to Israel” slogan has been supplemented by other declarations, like saying Israel is not a country but a terrorist base. But bombing a girls’ school in Iran and killing 51 as Trump just did – with many more deaths to come – is not the way to address this problem.
ETA: To be fair, I did suggest that, absent a diplomatic solution, a targeted attack on Iran’s military infrastructure would be justifiable. But that doesn’t appear to be what these incompetents are currently doing.

I hope this war goes tits up in spectacular fashion but with as little loss of life as possible. I’d like to see Iran block up the Strait of Hormuz and send oil prices soaring and have gas in the US go up to $10 per gallon. We need this to fail in the short term so that we can get rid of our fascist regime in the long term.
This war probably increases the threat to Israel, especially in the long term. The way to deal with such “existential threats” (and I’m still skeptical of this claim considering the long and lying history of such claims) is through diplomacy and negotiation.

If Iran offered a peace agreement with Israel, along with full diplomatic relations, Israel would accept in a heartbeat. There’s nothing more we want from Iran.
This war is making that a lot less likely. Clowns driving us into a war without real purpose and no long term plan is going to be disastrous for the entire region.

Iran was already maximally hostile to Israel. They’ve been actively sending proxy groups against us on a regular basis for decades, including right now. If someone is already trying their best to kill you, it’s pretty silly to argue that your actions are turning them against you.
We had a peace deal that by all accounts was working as intended ten years ago, torn up by Trump with Netanyahu’s blessing. If we had worked at it honestly and reasonably since then, Iran might be at 5% instead of 0% now. Maybe trending positively for the future.
But we’re led by bloodthirsty, dishonest, malevolent, and incompetent clowns. Who have now started a war with a country of nearly a hundred million people.

In what way was it “working as intended”? Iran got to continue actively attacking their enemies through proxie groups, building up their ballistic missile and launcher reserves, and was barely slowed down on their nuclear program. What about that is “intended” to you?
That wasn’t a peace deal, that was a temporary agreement that didn’t involve Israel. A peace deal means actual peace, full diplomatic relations, no sending poxy armies to fight us, etc… things Iran has no interest in.

It was working very well - for Iran - it allowed them to keep building up their ballistic missiles, proxy groups, and even their nuclear program as long as they didn’t cross certain thresholds.
It was not working for America, not unless America’s goal is a nuclear Iran.
Trump is a legacy draft dodger who loves to play with the military as though service members are his own private army of lethal toy soldiers.
He just took steps to blow up the Middle East. He did it because it makes him feel powerful and of course to distarct and deflect attention from all the ways he is fucking things up….and of course, the Epstein problem that won’t go away.
