As for the “knocked up” remark, even Letterman has distanced himself from it, calling it in “bad taste” and admitting that he “probably” regrets saying it. There’s really nothing to defend here, yet you go on as if the joke is some priceless witticism that might have been heard around the Algonquin Round Table or something. I don’t know if you’re a die-hard Letterman fan or a drooling Palin-hater, but, really…you might want to give this one a rest.

It’s interesting. In another thread awhile ago I repeatedly referred to Obama as ‘Hussein,’ which is his actual given name. This got the libs all riled up, and I promised to stop doing it.

Nice to see that it’s apparently OK to simply make up a name…as long as it’s about the child of a conservative Republican. Liberal hypocrisy is really quite breath-taking sometimes.

Yes, I do happen to have evidence she isn’t educated. She didn’t seem to know that allowing an unwrapped pee pee in her junk can make her pregnant.

Whatever Merriam Webster says it’s obvious the people who use wreck havoc are doing so in the firm belief that the word is identical to that in train wreck, etc.

Ignorance rather than differing pronunciation is at the root of it. It’s been recognized by some dictionaries because the misuse has become so widespread that it now qualifies as an alternative (although very, very few educated people would spell or pronounce it thus).

Anybody here care to put up their hand and say quite honestly that they use wreck havoc rather than wreak havoc?
