You know, I love it when both liberals and conservatives get together to bash each other. I’d say Bristol is not a slut and calling Obama by his middle name is a cheap shot. I also say that I don’t give a shit what jokes Letterman tells because that’s how he makes a living.
This leads us back to arguably the most offensive aspect of the whole “Hussein” thing, which is the implicit idea that being a Muslim or an Arab is somehow bad or un-American in the first place.
IME, the single greatest achievement of the Obama campaign was walking a tightrope between offending the Muslim community and giving the opposition more fuel for the “Secret Muslim!” flames.
It would have been nice if he could have said what Colin Powell did, but of course Powell didn’t have to worry about getting elected, and he wasn’t the one being called a sekrit muslim.
No doubt were his middle name “Chavez” or “Dahmer” or something else that lent itself to facile association, we’d be hearing it hammered on in the same way.
The use of pejoratives doesn’t particularly bother me, so much as the disingenuous attempts to deny it. I find that offensive, whether we’re discussing Obama or Bush or anyone else.
I’ve never heard it proposed that the nickname “Dubya” is pejorative, though, being that it was either self-appointed or created by his close relations. (“Dumbya,” “Shrub,” etc., sure…)
At the risk of stating the obvious, the batshit wing of the Democratic Party thinks all Republicans are racist. Bush is an Anglo name, therefore anyone who voted for Bush is a racist.
This is just one example of Obama’s jaw-dropping stupidity. Of course, if he were a Republican, David Letterman would be using clips like this on each show. And this is just one of many examples indicating that Obama is an idiot. What about when Obama was in some Midwest town that had recently seen some deadly tornadoes? Obama told everyone that around “10,000” people had died; the actual death toll was something like “twelve.”
He has material like this and an endless supply of idiotic Joe Biden gaffes, but Letterman feels much more comfortable attacking Sarah Palin’s family and making lame Dick Cheney pacemaker jokes.
Well, got us there, I guess. I mean, you think “unqualified ingoramus” and “vice president”, and the first thing that leaps to mind is Joe Biden. You know, he claims he can see Delaware from his front porch! And did he have the foresight to have needful anti-witch protections installed? He did not!
Sure, why not? Obama’s selection of Biden as Vice President certainly didn’t torpedo his election chances, so it seems that a majority of people who could be arsed to vote disagree with your assessment.
Feel free to expand your attempted hijack to explain why Sarah Palin would have been a better choice than Biden as someone to be next in line for the presidency. That should be good for a few laughs.
The average 21st century republican doesn’t get bogged down with logical connections in their arguments.
As to the argument buried in the gravitycrash’s mumblings, he’s basically saying, “Democrats do it too!”
Which ignores the primary problem in 21st century American politics. Democrats and Republicans both have a stupid, uneducated wing of their party. However for some reason, the stupid and uneducated wing of the Republican party is in charge. The Republican Base is a collection of absolute morons assured of biblical inerrancy and that everyone out of work or in need of healthcare is where they are because of laziness or terrible vices.
