Uh huh. You do realize that Governor Dinwiddie of Virginia was working with Virginia landowners and Parliament to form the Ohio Company - to expand the colony to the Ohio River and sell the land to settlers. The Washingtons were involved in this effort from the start.
A major problem was those pesky French in the way.
So, how is this not political? And if we understand that it was - at least that his actions in that war were actions that he knew to have political consequences of a very immediate and close nature, then Washington was a political figure from his teenage years until his death.
You’re expanding the definition of “political” to the point where it’s meaningless. His family was involved in a land sale scheme, so that’s the same as holding elected office? Give me a break.
If the applilcations were, in and of themselves, invalid, then no procedure performed by the Minions of Barrack (MOB) could “invalidate” them. Bones reports, “He’s dead, Jim”, doesn’t mean he killed him.
As far as Washington, if you define politics to include military service, you can take your point, but surely you realise it is not the commonly accepted definition of “politics”. Mao and Clausewitz notwithstanding.
Letterman’s schtick is about not letting things go. Look at his longstanding “feuds” with Oprah, Dr. Phil, Madonna… if you spar a few rounds you will reappear in his monologues, jokes, etc. many more times.
The only way that this is going to work out well for Palin is if she plays along… goes to Letterman’s show, and goes back and forth. That would require some media savvy and a sense of humor. Not sure if she has either one.
The truth of the matter is, the right wing is so broken right now, they need a media-competent presence that can talk to middle of the road, nonpartisan Americans and demonstrate some humanity. I’m sure it’s very seductive for Palin to bask in the attention of the extremists of the party (which seems to be all that the party has at the moment), but it would be much better for the future of the Republican Party if they actually concerned themselves with bringing more folks to their candidates. She can continue to play the outrage card (think Quayle and Murphy Brown) or use this as an opportunity to get some media attention every few months by sparring with Letterman a bit.
Heck, if she pulled that off, I’d have to give her some grudging respect.
But again, Washington started holding elected office in his twenties, and he was appointed surveyor of the newly created Culpeper County as a teenager. So whether we quibble over his role in the French and Indian War, it doesn’t change the fact that your original assertion was wrong.
No matter how fervently Shayna supported/supports Obama, that doesn’t change the fact that she cited the hell out of her posts. This is ad hominem in its purest form. Attacking Shayna personally doesn’t change the information she brought to the table. Fucking let it go.
He held one minor elected office in his life. That was it. That was his whole political experience before he was elected Prez. I already admitted that I should have said his experience was next to nothing instead of just nothing.
That’s correct. Next to none. He was in the equivalent of a state legislature. Big deal. So was Obama. Washington never even got out of the lower house like Obama did.
It is not at all uncommon for a laudatory biography to exaggerate the subject’s signficance even in relatively minor matters. Note that it actually mentions only one significant political action. As to Washington’s being “intimate” with “every political leader in the colony”, perhaps it is best to draw a discreet veil over such matters.
Choosing to rebel against the Crown - was that a political decision?
Were his dealings with the Continental Congress after his appointment as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army political in nature? Many of his decisions displayed a remarkable political acumen.
He was president of the Constitutional Convention and voted on the articles that were debated - so his stamp is on the Constitution in force today. Again, this would count as political experience to any reasonable person.
Please just admit that you were in error and let this unproductive side argument just pass.
She made the talking points she wanted to make, regardless of the point under discussion, and responded to any questioning and any suggestion that there might be more to a situation not with reason or discussion but with constant streams of invective. She had quite a few cheerleaders and collaborators in that, as well. Such as yourself, for one example.
Think about that some more, if you can force yourself. “God damned cretin”, was it?
You still don’t fucking get what she was doing, or why it matters, do you?
