I just checked Amazon and Joe the Plumber’s book is coming from PearlGate. It’s a small publisher that just started in August and their only other book is an inspirational religious novel called Things Forgotten.
Basically, this is a half step away from self publishing it. No one will buy it and no one will read it.
I’d say it’s pointless to debate with someone as stupid as yourself. Keep up the good fight chester. I was hoping you’d be willing to think for a second, but go on living in your fantasy world.
Why are people mad at Joe the Plumber? It’s not at all unusual for two allied public officials to break over a critical national issue like the bailout, even when they’ve been on the campaign trail together working jointly for each other’s election to national office. Hey, that’s how it goes sometimes. Why can’t Joe the Plumber enjoy the same privilege to criticize a close colleague that every other Senator or other national public figure has?
Why in the world would you be mad at Joe the Plumber? Sure, he’s an idiot that no one should pay attention to. That means you should be mad at the media that put his face on TV and pay him to put his name on books. This is like being angry at Paris Hilton. It doesn’t compute. Sure, there’s no reason in the world for Paris Hilton or Joe the Plumber to be famous, but why get angry at the faux-celebrities themselves? You’re complaining that our nation’s faux-celebrities and fame-whores aren’t worth paying attention to. Well, duh.
Gyrate’s Law of Opposite Assertion: Any argument which includes the assertion that the opposing party secretly agrees with the speaker may safely be dismissed as fundamentally flawed.
Seriously, people, don’t tell me what I “know”, especially when I’ve been saying the opposite the whole time. I’ve seen Starving Artist do this more than once and it appears every now and then in other posts by other people, and in all cases it indicates that the poster doesn’t have a proper rebuttal but “knows” that we “know” that he’s right and are merely clinging to our opposing position out of sheer spite and intellectual dishonesty.
If you can’t argue your case without including the assumption that your opponents secretly agree with you, you’re not very good at arguing.
And yet, reducing things to the absurd is your stock in trade. Your definition of socialist is “anyone who favors providing more government services than you believe are necessary”.
I was particularly tickled by this:
Every other developed country in the world guarantees its citizens healthcare, but apparently that’s not something a modern society should accept, because… you don’t like it.
You’re defending Joe the Plumber and calling Obama a socialist. Ten years ago, Manhattan would be laughing his ass off and telling you you’re a moron. Sean Hannity talking points are no substitute for intelligent debate.
But see, this is why people are pissed off, JTP isn’t a close colleague, or public official, or Senator, or national public figure really. He’s just some dumbass schmuck that happened to be in the right place at the wrong time and got swept up into this whole shit storm of politics. He should be listened to no more than that crazy neighbor that lets their lawn grow and keeps all the garden gnomes all over the place.
And I do tend to agree that the media is deserving more of the hatred and contempt than JTP, but he’s still an asshole idiot.
I’m not sure mad covers it. McCain has served his country almost his entire life, and while I dont agree with his politics I feel the man deserves a measure of respect. Especially from somebody who owes so much to him. He’s basically stabbing McCain in the back, its a low dirty thing to do and nothing annoys me more than backstabbers.
If Joe had never agreed with McCain and had said so, then it wouldn’t bother me so much. But to campaign, hug, and suck up the attention like he has done and then turn and do this??? Scum.
Please, please, please keep saying things like this!
Obama’s approval rating is currently at 79%. The more work conservatives do to link the words “Obama” and “socialist” in people’s minds, the more palatable they make socialism to the nation as a whole:
“Hmmmm. Rush keeps saying Obama is a socialist. But I like what Obama’s doing and saying. He’s a smart guy and his policies make sense. Maybe there’s something worthwhile about socialism after all … .”
Yep, because the same thing happened to the word “conservative”. In the 60s and 70s “conservative” was a dirty word, Nixon and Ford never identified themselves as conservatives, but that changed in the 80s. “Wow, Ronald Reagan is a right-wing conservative? Huh. I guess I’m conservative too.”
And the opposite is happening right now: “George Bush is a conservative? Well, whatever that is, I’m the opposite of that. The opposite of conservative is socialist you say? OK, I’m a socialist!”
And it’s doubly funny since in the past few months the Bush administration has nationalized the financial sector and is about to nationalize the automotive industry.
I’m tired of all the sore losers “calmly” and “with dignity, class and tolerance” deciding it’s time to talk about something else and telling everybody else to just move on simply because they’re seething at their lose and can’t hardly (intentional sic) stand anything that keeps that fact in their face.
Well, the “calmly” and “with dignity, class and tolerance” may not have been present in this particularly case, but you know what I mean.[/hijack]
